St. Joseph's Health Care London is seeking a registered nurse for the Forensic Psychiatry Program at the Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care in St. Thomas, ON.

The role involves providing nursing care to clients with severe and persistent mental illness within an interdisciplinary team. New graduates are encouraged to apply through the job-share arrangement. The position requires Ontario RN registration, CPR, pharmacology experience and travel within the catchment area; immunization

Qualifications

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current CPR certificate.
• Experience with pharmacology and medication administration.
• Experience with caring for clients with severe and persistent mental illness.
• Knowledge of mental health legislation.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Ability to coordinate care with the Registered Nurse and multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience applying the nursing process and documenting it.
• Ability to relate therapeutically with clients.
• Ability to respond to psychiatric and physical emergencies.
• Strong communication, flexibility and organizational skills.
• Ability to meet the physical demands and practice safe body mechanics.
• Willingness to travel within catchment area.
• Knowledge of OHSA safety culture.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to clients with severe and persistent mental illness within an interdisciplinary team.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement care plans.
• Coordinate care with the Registered Nurse and other team members.
• Document the nursing process and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients.
• Respond effectively to psychiatric and physical emergencies and crises.
