Job description

The Forensic Structural Engineer will be responsible for evaluating building and infrastructure performance, determining root causes of failures or damage, and preparing defensible technical reports. Work may include residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional structures.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Conduct forensic investigations related to structural failures, damage, or deficiencies
  • Perform site inspections following events such as fires, floods, windstorms, impacts, or construction-related issues
  • Analyze structural systems including concrete, steel, timber, and masonry
  • Review drawings, specifications, construction records, and maintenance histories
  • Determine cause, origin, and extent of damage
  • Prepare clear, concise engineering reports and technical documentation
  • Communicate findings to clients, insurers, legal counsel, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Provide repair recommendations and remediation guidance
  • Participate in meetings, mediations, and depositions as required
  • Support litigation matters, including expert testimony (depending on experience level)
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in structural engineering
  • Strong knowledge of structural design principles and building systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to conduct field work and site inspections
