Job summary

Alberta Health Services in High Prairie is hiring a Food Service I to perform routine food preparation, packaging and portioning, serve meals to patients and customers, and maintain clean and sanitary conditions in Patient Food Services. This casual/relief role requires independence at times and the ability to work with minimal supervision across days, evenings and weekends.

Starting pay ranges from $22.05 to $23.69 per hour, with shifts varying in length.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent.
• Physically capable to lift up to 46 lbs and handle heavy carts.
• Walk and stand for the duration of shift.
• Food Safe Handling Certificate required within three months.
• Basic computer skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine food service duties including preparation, portioning, assembly, packaging, and delivery.
• Serve meals to patients and customers and maintain sanitation of dishes and areas.
• Clean and sanitize equipment and serving areas according to standards.
• Operate basic food service equipment and assist with inventory stocking.

Job description

Your Opportunity

Under the general supervision of the Food Services Supervisor, this position performs routine food service duties such as preparation, portioning, assembly, delivery, distribution, disassembly, cleaning, operating industrial food service equipment, inventory stocking, cash transactions and customer service in all functional areas of the department. Food Service delivery is provided to Long Term Care residents. This position must be independent and able to make some decisions as a supervisor is not on duty at all times. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description

As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent.
• Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs.
• This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Additional Required Qualifications

• Require basic computer skills.
• Food Safe Handling Certificate is required within three months.
• To work as part of a team, to be organized, perform duties independently and have the ability to work and learn quickly.
• Demonstrate interpersonal skills and customer service skills.
• Ability to read, write, speak and receive instruction in English.
• Must be physically fit and be able to perform heavy lifting up to 20 kg.
