Job summary

Alberta Health Services (AHS) seeks a Food Service I to support patient and resident dining,Tray assembly, meal delivery and basic food prep in Fort McMurray. You will operate standard equipment, follow safety policies, and maintain high standards of sanitation in a fast-paced environment.

Posting notes indicate a casual/relief employment class, 7.75 hour shifts, days/weekends, with minimum $22.05 and maximum $23.69 hourly wages and a Fort McMurray allowance up to $12,480 annually.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent.
• Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs.
• Walk and stand on your feet for the duration of the shift.
• Experience with inventory management and hospital or long-term care environments is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assemble trays in the kitchen.
• Provide patient meal delivery and pick up.

This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident, and customer experience. Under the general supervision of a Food Services Supervisor, they will use strong customer service, teamwork, and organizational skills to:

• Prepare, handle, portion and package food and beverages.
• Assemble trays in the kitchen.
• Provide patient meal delivery and pick up.
• Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment.
• Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines.
• Complete other food service duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will be able to:

• Work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy.
• Work under pressure in high stress situations.
• Communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments.
• Work as an effective, professional team member.
• Demonstrate a patient first approach as outlined in the AHS Foundational Strategies.
• Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions.

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.
