Alberta Health Services (AHS) is hiring a Food Service I to support the Nutrition Food Service team at the University of Alberta Hospital. The role involves preparing, portioning, serving meals to patients and customers, and maintaining clean, safe food service areas.

Successful candidates will work in a fast-paced environment with strong teamwork and patient-focused service. Shifts run 700-1515, seven days a week, with a casual/relief appointment and opportunities within Patient Food Services.

As a dedicated member of the Nutrition Food Service (NFS) team, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact by providing nutritious, healthy, high-quality meal service to patients, residents, staff, visitors and the community. This Casual position is located at the University of Alberta Hospital and will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident and customer experience. Successful incumbents must be available for 700-1515 shifts, seven days a week.Under the general supervision of a NFS Supervisor, you will use your customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to independently to prepare, handle, portion and package food and beverages. Assemble trays in the kitchen and/or serve meals in a dining room setting. Provide patient meal delivery and pick up. Order and put away unit supplies. Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment. Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines. Complete cash handling duties in the retail setting if applicable to role. Complete other food service duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy. Work under pressure in high stress situations. Communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments. Demonstrate critical thinking skills and initiative. Work as an effective, professional team member. Demonstrate a patient first approach as outlined in the AHS Foundational Strategies. Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic knowledge of and experience with computer applications. All new employees must be able to attend a 2-day Patient Food Service New Employee Orientation followed by an onsite orientation shift. Preferred Qualifications:

1 year of customer service experience. 1 year of food service experience. Experience in a hospital or long-term care environment. Experience in a food service department within a hospital or long-term care environment. Successful incumbents must be available for 700-1515 shifts, seven days a week.
