As a dedicated member of the Nutrition Food Service (NFS) team, you could make a significant impact by providing nutritious, healthy, high quality meal service to patients, residents, staff, visitors, and the community. This is a casual position located at Canmore General Hospital. You will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident, and customer experience. Under the general supervision of a Food Services Supervisor, you will use your customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to independently: Prepare, handle, portion and package food and beverages. Assemble trays in the kitchen and/or serve meals in a dining room setting. Provide patient meal delivery and pick up. Order and put away unit supplies. Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment. Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines. The successful candidate will be able to: Work independently in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy. Work under pressure in high stress situations. Communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments. Demonstrate critical thinking skills and initiative. Work as an effective, professional team member. Demonstrate a patient first approach as outlined in the AHS Foundational Strategies. Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions. Nestled amid rocky peaks, the mountain town of Canmore (population approx. 14,000) draws outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. A combination of the terrain and numerous wildlife corridors has led to a somewhat sprawling community, located about 80 kilometres west of Calgary and about 25 kilometres from Banff.

Description:

As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic knowledge of and experience with computer applications. All new employees must be able to attend 1-2 days of Patient Food Services new employee orientation.

Preferred Qualifications:

1 year of customer service experience. 1 year of food service experience. Experience in a hospital or long-term care environment. Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates, and minimizing waste while utilizing First In, First Out procedures. Experience with Commercial Food Service Equipment. Food Safe Certification or equivalent. WHMIS training.
