Job description

Reporting to the QA (Quality Assurance) Manager, the Food Safety Manager is responsible for managing the development, implementation, daily operation, validation, and verification of the Food Safety Program at Cavendish Farms New Annan, Plant 1 and 2.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the development and introduction of policies and procedures to support the Sanitation, Safe Quality Foods (SQF) program, and other food safety programs in use. These include HACCP, HARPC, Food Defense, and Intentional Adulteration.
  • Main contact/liaison with regulatory agencies and auditors: both SQF and customer audits, and internal and facility audits.
  • Set standards to ensure food safety and sanitation at all stages of the operation, including receiving, production, packaging, maintenance, engineering, and shipping.
  • Assist QA Manager with various site initiatives and be the backup during absences.
  • Manage and support the Food Safety Specialists to ensure they can be successful.
  • Oversee customer complaint investigation process.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in quality assurance, food safety, or a related field, preferably within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with food safety programs, including HACCP, HARPC, SQF, Food Defense, and Intentional Adulteration.
  • Proven experience working with regulatory agencies.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards and sanitation best practices.
  • Experience in managing and supporting a team, with demonstrated ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate and resolve customer complaints effectively.
