Job description

Engineering - Launch Systems Full Time Markham, ON $60,000 - $80,000 CAD per year

NordSpace(https://nordspace.com) is a Canadian startup with the mission to advance life on Earth, from space.NordSpaceis committed to extremely rapid innovation and development of the most ambitious aerospace projects with the most ambitious team. With divisions spanning everything fromspace robotics to satellites torockets,NordSpaceis driven to bring space closer to Earth and inspire generations of space explorers.

Role purpose:

We are looking for a Fluids Engineer to join our Structures team and help design, analyze, and test the fluid systems that manage our propellant feed systems. You'll work across the full lifecycle of propellant tanks and feed-system development from trade studies and first-principles modeling through hardware testing and flight qualification. This is both an analytical and hands-on role for someone who wants to see their analysis translate directly into hardware on the test stand and, ultimately, on the launch pad.

At NordSpace, you'll play a meaningful role in developing technologies that make a difference in the rocket industry. We believe in investing in early-career talent and providing opportunities to learn, innovate, and grow alongside industry experts. If you're excited about solving complex challenges, we'd love to hear from you

Core responsibilities
  • Design and analyze propellant feed systems, including propellant tanks, pressurization systems, valves, regulators, ducting, and manifolds for liquid rocket engines and vehicle-level fluid systems
  • Perform fluid dynamics analysis (incompressible and compressible flow, single- and two-phase flow, cavitation, water hammer, and transient flow phenomena) using both analytical methods and CFD tools
  • Size and select components such as valves, orifices, filters, regulators, and relief devices; generate flow schematics (P&IDs) for engine and ground support systems
  • Develop and maintain fluid system models (e.g., in EcosimPro/ESPSS, Simulink, Flownex, or custom Python/MATLAB tools) to predict steady-state and transient system behavior
  • Support propellant and pressurant selection trades, tank pressurization schemes (autogenous, cold gas, etc.), and system-level mass/performance trades
  • Work closely with Structures, Propulsion and Avionics engineers to ensure fluid systems integrate cleanly with propellant tanks, pressurization systems, and propellant manifolds
  • Define instrumentation and test requirements for component- and system-level hot-fire and cold-flow testing; support test planning, execution, and post-test data analysis
  • Root-cause anomalies observed in testing (e.g., cavitation, pogo, water hammer, chugging, flow instabilities) and propose design or operational fixes
  • Generate and maintain technical documentation: analysis reports, design review packages, requirements, and verification/qualification plans
  • Support hardware fabrication, assembly, and proof/leak/flow testing of fluid components
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Solid grounding in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, including compressible flow, two-phase flow, and transient (unsteady) flow analysis
  • Experience with fluid system modeling or simulation tools
  • Working knowledge of CFD (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM) for component-level flow analysis
  • Familiarity with propellant and pressurant properties relevant to liquid rocket propulsion (e.g., LOX, RP-1, nitrogen)
  • Comfortable working with cryogenic fluid systems and associated safety practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work from first principles when tools or data are limited
  • Experience reading and generating P&IDs, schematics, and engineering drawings

This posting is for an existing vacancy. Thank you to all who apply. Candidates who are successfully selected for an interview will be notified by email.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada and able to obtain and maintain a security assessment under the Controlled Goods Program (Defence Production Act) as a condition of their employment.
