Job summary

Horizon Aircraft, Inc. is seeking a Flight Control Laws Engineer to design, develop and verify flight control laws and systems for an EVTOL platform.

You will work with a small, multidisciplinary team to integrate controls with sensors, simulators and flight software, shaping the next generation of urban air mobility. The role includes hands-on development, real-time testing, and ongoing learning opportunities as the team advances platform capabilities and safety standards across the

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in flight control laws or control algorithm development
  • Strong knowledge of aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics and aircraft stability (EVTOL)
  • Familiarity with modern control theory and robust/optimal control
  • Familiarity with system ID and signal processing techniques
  • Experience with development, real-time simulation and analysis in Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience with code generation tools
  • Proficiency in C/C++
  • Experience developing software complying with DO-178C
  • Familiarity with eVTOL Certification regs (TCCA, FAA, EASA)

What we need you to bring.

Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, experienced Flight Control Laws Engineer. Your role involves developing our platform’s flight control laws, and flight control systems. As flight controls are the brains of the platform you will interface with almost every other area of expertise – as a result you will be dealing with complex and often competing requirements to develop a unique system.

As we’re a small team, there is significant scope for you to advance your career and learn about adjacent disciplines.

Your Day- to-Day:

  • Design of flight controls laws, performance models, CONOPS, requirements, and analysis
  • Implement requirements for the flight control laws, sensors, and algorithms
  • Develop creative solutions to verify complex systems and software

  • Implement and test the flight control system, and evaluate performance
  • Stay up to date with, and implement the latest developments in your field

We are looking for people that will have the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in a flight control laws or control algorithm development role.
  • Strong knowledge of aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, and aircraft stability (ideally in EVTOL development).
  • Familiarity with modern control theory and methodologies including robust and optimal control.
  • Familiarity with system ID and signal processing techniques.
  • Experience with development, real-time simulation and analysis in Matlab/Simulink.
  • Experience with code generation tools.
  • Proficiency in C/C++.
  • Experience developing software complying with DO-178C.
  • Familiarity with eVTOL Certification regulations from the TCCA, FAA, and EASA.

Location.

We are located just outside of Lindsay, in the Kawartha Lakes area of Ontario, Canada. Our team is onsite at our facility, as a group, a minimum of two days per week. We expect the same from you, and we are mindful of what a realistic commute would be to keep you safe and at your best. We offer relocation allowances in appropriate cases.
