Job summary

Umbrella Family in Hamilton is seeking Relief Staff to provide a safe, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate environment for children across centres. You will support classroom staff, implement programming in alignment with How Does Learning Happen, and travel to different sites to provide coverage as needed.

This on-call, full-time role offers 28.25–37.5 hours weekly, with pay rates per the collective agreement: RECE $28.00/hr or Non- RECE $26.35/hr.

Qualifications

• Related experience in a childcare setting.
• Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child & Youth Care, Recreation & Leisure, or OCT membership preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?
• Must have access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license for travel to Hamilton centres.
• Willingness to work in an on-call capacity with flexible scheduling.
• Availability to work Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM–6:00 PM.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Passion for diversity, equality, and inclusion advocacy.

Responsibilities

• Implement programs and activities that support children’s development.
• Supervise children at all times, ensuring safety and well-being.
• Organize indoor/outdoor play areas, keeping spaces safe and welcoming.
• Maintain hygiene and safety standards for toys, equipment, and food areas.
• Administer first aid and complete accident reports as needed.
• Conduct daily checks and notify supervisors of unusual circumstances.
• Support classroom staff during programming, breaks, and transitions.
• Travel between centre sites and provide flexible coverage on short notice.
• Perform other duties to support centre operations.
