Job summary

Toronto Hydro Corporation is seeking a Fleet Mechanic in Toronto, ON to inspect, repair and maintain automotive, hydraulic, portable, and stationary equipment. The role includes 40-hour weeks with an evening shift (2:30pm–12:30am) and is tied to our existing vacancy.

You will work with diagnostic tools, welding equipment, and a variety of fleet management platforms. Ideal candidates have a Truck and Coach Technician Certificate (310T), a valid DZ license, strong hydraulics knowledge, and

  • Must possess a Truck and Coach Technician Certificate (310T).
  • Valid Class DZ Driver's Licence for Ontario or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with hydraulics and engine systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, and maintain vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform inspections and tests on equipment and complete documentation.
  • Diagnose and repair to ensure safe operation of fleet.
  • Use gas and electric welding equipment for fabrication and repairs.
  • Maintain tools and work area in safe condition.

Expected Salary Range: $43.95 - $56.08 Hourly

The salary range shown above reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.

The Fleet Mechanic inspects, repairs, and maintains automotive, mobile, hydraulic, portable, and stationary equipment.

This posting is to fill up to one (1) position, which is an existing vacancy. Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in alignment with the applicable collective agreement, to finalize the number of positions filled.

Days/Shifts: 40 hours per week, evening shift (Monday-Thursday evening shift (2:30pm to 12:30am).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates safety awareness and adheres to safety rules and regulations
  • Familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Act, Utility, and EUSA Rule Books
  • Conducts and/or directs work in a manner that is sensitive to customer and public needs
  • Performs inspections and tests on vehicles and equipment and completes documentation as required
  • Diagnose and perform maintenance and repairs to vehicles and equipment as required
  • Uses gas and electric welding equipment for repair work and fabrications
  • Processes work orders and inspection forms as required
  • Maintains work equipment and tools in a safe working condition
  • Maintain, update and prepare files, reports, records and documentation
  • Initiate, receive and satisfy inquiries or complaints by telephone, in person or by correspondence
  • Performs duties of equal or lower classification providing they are within their experience and training, Operates vehicle and associated equipment
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess a Truck and Coach Technician Certificate (310T)
  • Valid Class “DZ” Driver's Licence in the Province of Ontario, or willing to obtain if selected
  • Thorough knowledge of hydraulics
  • Knowledgeable in safety regulations, rules, and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in a variety of business computer software packages
  • Proficiency using diagnostic tools and software (e.g., Cummins, INSITE, etc.)
  • Experience working with Drive On systems or comparable fleet management / maintenance platforms
  • Ability to diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on engine systems
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service data
