Job summary

Barricades and Signs Ltd. in Western Canada is seeking a Traffic Control Person (Flagger) to ensure safe flow of traffic in work zones and to protect workers and the public.

You will set up zones, adjust equipment, and respond to emergencies while maintaining safety and quality standards. The role requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays and early mornings, with a valid provincial driver’s license and the ability to pass drug&alcohol testing.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to communicate clearly with project teams and the public.
• Valid provincial driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug & alcohol testing.
• Construction experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Gives traffic control directions and signals clearly to motorists.
• Conduces traffic control at worksites safely as trained.
• Ensures compliance with quality, delivery, safety and responsiveness standards.
• Attends health and safety toolbox meetings as required.
• Communicates effectively to de-escalate public frustrations.
• Assists with setup/teardown of signs and equipment.
• Understands provincial/local traffic control regulations.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge and availability for varied hours.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a member of our operations team, the Traffic Control Person (Flagger) ensures the safety and flow of traffic in work zones. They are responsible for setting up traffic control zones, adjusting work zone equipment, and responding to emergencies and hazards. Their role is vital for the company as it safeguards the safety of workers, the public, and our employees. They also play a critical role in upholding quality, delivery, safety, and responsiveness requirements, ensuring that the company's operations run smoothly and without incidents

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Gives traffic control directions and signals clearly and precisely so that motorists understand their meaning.


• Effectively conducts traffic control at worksites within the abilities and experience of the training provided to protect workers, the public, and our employees.


• Ensures traffic control capabilities meet or exceed requirements for quality, delivery, safety, and responsiveness.


• Attends health and safety toolbox/tailgate meetings as required to discuss matters related to the worksite and work to conduct.


• Effective communication skills with the ability to de-escalate public frustrations.


• Assists with the setup and tear down of the signs, delineation of equipment, and traffic control procedures, along with other related duties, as required.


• Understand the demands of provincial and local regulations related to traffic control.


• Maintain professional and technical knowledge.


• Be readily available to work a variety of hours including nights, weekends, holidays and early mornings.

QUALIFICATIONS

• C onstruction experience preferred


• Ability to work flexible schedules


• Ability to communicate with project team members to ensure tasks are executed in a timely manner


• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Valid provincial drivers license and clean drivers abstract


• Ability to pass pre-employment drug & alcohol testing
