Job summary

CNH Industrial in Saskatoon, Canada, is seeking a skilled fabricator/welder to construct, alter and repair tools, fixtures and weld jigs. You will follow safety standards, read blueprints and operate manual fabrication machines to produce quality parts.

The role emphasizes problem solving, 3+ years welding/fabrication experience, and ability to work with minimal supervision in a manufacturing setting. Physical work and respirator use may be required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
• Two years’ experience in manufacturing processes.
• Three years’ experience welding and/or fabrication using machines such as saws, brakes, lathes, and mills.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, including welding diagrams and symbols.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Good verbal, and written communication skills.
• Experience in troubleshooting and problem solving.
• Physically able to lift/move material and wear a respirator.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety standards and EH&S policy.
• Identify unsafe acts and conditions by completing observation cards.
• Maintain 5S by organizing tools and ensuring proper storage.
• Monitor abnormalities and report to Team Leader or Supervisor.
• Complete CILR activities and address deficiencies.
• Fabricate parts to specifications using manual fabrication machines.
• Perform welding as needed.
• Move materials as necessary.
• Ensure products meet quality guidelines and improve quality.
• Contribute to root cause analysis of equipment problems.
• Submit six improvement suggestions per year.

Job Purpose

Construct, alter and repair a variety of special tools, templates, fixtures and weld jigs. They create customer success by delivering the best experiences to their internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow prescribed safety standards, rules and regulations including those regarding the usage of PPE, Emergency Plans and EH&S Policy.
• To identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions by completing observation cards.
• To maintain 5s by removing all tools, equipment, and parts not needed in the work area and for those that are needed to ensure they have a dedicated, labeled home and are in that dedicated home.
• To monitor for and alert their Team Leader or Supervisor of any abnormalities from the standards in their area. This includes abnormalities in standard processes, standard machine operation, product quality, and logistics management.
• Completes all CILR activities as required, identifies deficiencies and sources of contamination, including difficult access areas in the workstation, and provides suitable countermeasures to address these issues.
• Construct, alter and repair a variety of special tools and templates, fixtures, and weld jigs.
• To fabricate parts to specifications using various manual fabrication machines such as saws, brakes, lathes, and mills.
• Check tooling made or modified by outside subcontractors to insure it meets quality specifications.
• Bench work involving filing, grinding, assembling, and adjusting to obtain satisfactory operations.
• Perform welding requiring skill and knowledge of fabricating practices when the need arises.
• Responsible for cost reductions as applicable to the area.
• Move materials as necessary in the performance of duties.
• Ensure all products meet the quality guidelines and follow all quality standards, procedures and guidelines in place and be active in improving product quality.
• To be involved in the root cause analysis of S EWO, EWO, HERCA, and equipment problems.
• To contribute to the continuous improvement of safety, quality, and productivity by submitting one (1) Suggestion every two (2) months for a total of six (6) per year.

Experience Required

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years’ experience working in manufacturing processes.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in welding and/or in the fabrication of parts using machines such as saws, brakes, lathes, and mills.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, including welding diagrams and symbols.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Good verbal, and written communication skills.
• Experience in trouble shooting and problem solving.
• Able to perform considerable physical effort consisting of frequently lifting or moving average weight material in difficult work positions. The candidate must be physically able to wear a respirator while some tasks such as light painting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in both MIG welding and operation of manual fabrication machines such as saws, brakes, lathes, and mills.
• Journeyperson certification in a related field.

Pay Transparency

The annual salary for this role is CAD $35.84 - $39.90 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)
