Job summary

AdvanTec Marine in Chilliwack, BC is seeking a Fabricator/Welder 4 to join our Custom Fabrication team. You will interpret blueprints, weld and assemble high-quality metal components in a dynamic manufacturing setting.

We value leadership, teamwork and safety. The role requires strong welding skills, reading drawings, and the ability to troubleshoot and contribute to production efficiency.

Qualifications

• 8+ years welding & fabrication experience.
• 3+ years production GMAW welding experience.
• 2+ years fitting & fabrication experience.
• Ability to read, interpret and sketch engineering drawings.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, verbal and written.
• Knowledge of weld symbols and engineering drawings.
• Basic math skills and tape measure reading.
• Eligible to meet Controlled Goods Program requirements.

Responsibilities

• MIG weld carbon steel using .045 wire and read drawings.
• Fit and fabricate custom products and structures.
• Monitor fabrication quality and report non-conformance.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing issues; escalate as needed.
• Maintain clean, safe, hazard-free workspace.
• Provide support to department Team Lead and production.
• Track daily production numbers and prioritize tasks.
• Assist when equipment is down or supplies are short.

The Role:

As a Fabricator/Welder, you'll bring engineered designs to life, interpreting blueprints and detailed drawings to fabricate, weld, and assemble high-quality metal components. Working with a variety of tools, equipment, and materials, you’ll play a hands-on role in creating unique, custom solutions in a dynamic and fast-paced manufacturing environment. Projects are diverse and offer the opportunity to continuously develop your skills while contributing to work you can take pride in.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding of carbon steel using .045 metal core wire
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications
• Review drawings and specifications to ensure product functionality and design intent
• Fit and fabricate custom products and structures
• Monitor fabrication quality and follow processes to report non-conformance
• Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and elevate as required
• Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects
• Lead by example and maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free work environment
• Follow all safety procedures and safe work practices
• Support production requirements and complete additional duties as assigned
• Provide support to the department Team Lead.
• Monitor the flow of production; Prioritizing as required
• Track and record production numbers daily
• Provide assistance as needed when equipment is down, or there are issues with supplies
• Communicate to the department Team Lead or General Manager if equipment is not operating properly.
• Report any observed performance issues to the Team Lead
• Work in accordance with documented procedures and complete all applicable records

What You Bring

• Strong leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written
• Must be a team player - possess interpersonal skills
• Comfortable with computer and learning new production equipment software applications as required
• Strong understanding of weld symbols and engineering drawings
• Ability to read, interpret, and sketch technical drawings and blueprints
• Experience with basic non-destructive testing considered an asset
• CWB and DNC certifications considered an asset
• AWS Ticketed Welder, ITA Level 2 Welder, or equivalent B Pressure Ticket
• 8+ years of welding and fabrication experience
• Minimum 3 years of production GMAW welding experience
• Minimum 2 years of fitting and fabrication experience
• Must be eligible to meet Controlled Goods Program requirements
• Forklift certification considered an asset
• Strong mechanical aptitude and installation knowledge
• Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
• Knowledge of simple layouts
• Proficiency with hand tools (drills, grinders, cutting tools, squares, levels, etc.)
• Basic math skills and able to accurately read a tape measure
