Job summary

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and tidy program space; manage equipment; attend trainings; report concerns to supervisor.
• Participate in all assigned mandatory staff training.

Job Profile

The City of Cambridge is looking for Fitness Instructors to teach a variety of fitness classes for adults and older adults in our recreation centres. Instructors must be able to teach participants at all skill levels and create an engaging, educational, safe, and enjoyable class experience. We are seeking instructors who can provide consistent, reliable availability and are interested in building an ongoing relationship with our recreation programs. Continuity helps participants feel welcomed, supported, and confident returning to classes.

What you will be doing

• Your primary function, with a focus on customer service, is to plan, organize and deliver high quality safe and stimulating lessons for all levels of participants while being vigilant and ready to respond to any emergency situation.
• You will keep current with industry trends and class format and complete administrative duties in a timely manner (e.g. attendance, incident/accident reports).
• It is important to maintain a safe and tidy program space ensuring equipment is set up and stored appropriately; attend meetings and training as required; and, report any concerns or issues to your supervisor.
• Participate in all assigned mandatory staff training.

Experience and Knowledge

• Current certification from an accredited fitness organization.
• One year of previous related experience teaching group fitness to adults and older adults.
• Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
• Please note that applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

Current and valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position.

Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.

Rate of pay

The hourly rate for this position will vary pending qualifications and specialty; however, will be within the range of $25.00 to $40.00.

Hours of work

Hours are dependent on program registration and operational needs; as such, there are no minimum hours associated with this position. Preference will be given to candidates who can provide consistent availability for mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends, and who are interested in a reliable, long-term commitment that supports continuity of service and a positive experience for participants.
