Job summary

The Lax Kw’alaams Emergency Services Department is seeking a Term Full-Time First Responder to provide immediate assistance during emergencies, accidents, and disasters in British Columbia. You will respond to calls, secure scenes, and maintain reports and equipment.

Ideal candidates demonstrate calm under pressure, strong communication, and a team-oriented approach. Preference given to Lax Kw’alaams Band Members; wage is $21.95/hour under CUPE Local 2365, with the opportunity to participate in

Qualifications

• OF A 2 / Basic First Aid Level 2 required.
• CPR and First Aid certification required.
• Additional emergency response training and certifications (Asset)

Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to emergency calls and incidents.
• Assess the situation quickly and determine appropriate response actions.
• Secure the scene to ensure the safety of victims, bystanders, and other responders.
• Document incidents accurately and maintain detailed reports.
• Inspect and maintain emergency response vehicles, equipment, and supplies during each shift.
• Participate in training exercises and continuing education to maintain readiness.
• Communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and external agencies.
• Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Note: Perform all other duties within the scope of the position and as requested.

Job description

The Lax Kw’alaams Emergency Services Department has an exciting and immediate opening for a Term Full-Time First Responder. As a key member of the team, this role is responsible for providing immediate assistance and care during emergencies, including accidents, natural disasters, and other urgent situations. The role requires quick decision-making, strong communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to emergency calls and incidents
• Assess the situation quickly and determine appropriate response actions
• Secure the scene to ensure the safety of victims, bystanders, and other responders
• Document incidents accurately and maintain detailed reports

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Occupational First Aid 2 (OFA 2) / Basic First Aid Level 2 required
• CPR and First Aid certification required
• Additional emergency response training and certifications (Asset)

Experience

• Previous experience in emergency response, or related fields (Asset)

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Physical Demand

• Physical fitness and stamina to respond to emergency situations
• Ability to work both outdoors and indoors, depending on the nature of the emergency

Mental Demands

• You will have to complete several tasks and responsibilities at one time and must be prepared to deal with emergencies and stressful situations at any time
• May have to respond to an emergency involving individuals known to you

Classification/Pay Scale

• $21.95
• As per the Canadian Union of Public Employees’ Local 2365 Collective Agreement
