Job summary

BC Hydro in Burnaby, BC is seeking an Intermediate Piping Engineer – Fire Protection to join the Generation Stations Mechanical Engineering Balance of Plant team. You will design fire protection piping systems for hydroelectric generating stations, prepare calculations, and act as the Professional of Record sealing drawings, reports and calculations.

The role requires 5+ years of experience in piping design for heavy industrial facilities, registration as a P.Eng.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related discipline.
• Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a P.Eng. with EGBC.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Experience designing piping for industrial/utility facilities.
• Experience delivering projects from concept through turnover.
• Experience using piping design software.
• Awareness of fire protection principles, codes, and industry practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of fire protection piping systems for hydroelectric plants.
• Prepare and seal engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and reports as Professional Engineer of Record.
• Perform fire protection assessments, site investigations, hazard analyses, and code reviews.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, civil, and project teams.
• Develop designs from concept through construction and commissioning.
• Prepare calculations, specifications, construction packages, and procurement documents.
• Review external consultants' and contractors' work for BC Hydro.
• Support planning, cost estimating, scheduling, commissioning and turnover.
