AtkinsRéalis is seeking a recent graduate for its fire protection engineering program in Canada. The role offers hands-on experience across fire protection design, life safety, and code compliance within a multidisciplinary team.

You will work with senior engineers on practical projects, participate in site visits, and develop technical deliverables while growing your professional network and technical expertise.

Qualifications

• Recent graduate (or graduating in 2027) with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology.
• Experience with fire protection concepts, life-safety principles, or building code analysis is beneficial.
• Strong communication and collaborative skills to work with multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, analysis, and evaluation of fire protection systems (fire alarm and suppression).
• Support design of fire protection and sprinkler systems and conduct risk assessments for code compliance.
• Participate in Integrated Life Safety Systems testing and documentation.
• Conduct building code research (NBCC, NFCC, NFPA, ULC, CSA) to support reviews and alternatives.
• Prepare technical reports, design briefs, and system specifications.
• Collaborate with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines on integrated designs.
• Participate in site visits, inspections, and commissioning activities.
• Support engineering calculations and deliverables under supervision.

The Engineering Services Division is seeking a motivated new graduate to support fire suppression, fire alarm, integrated life safety systems, and code consulting projects across Canada. Our group delivers fire protection engineering services for complex facilities, including industrial, infrastructure, transportation, commercial, and institutional projects.

This opportunity provides hands‑on experience in fire protection design, integrated systems testing, and code consulting while working alongside experienced fire protection engineers and specialists. The role is ideally suited for recent graduates seeking to build a strong technical foundation in fire protection engineering and life safety systems within a multidisciplinary consulting environment.

Your role

Under the guidance of senior fire protection staff, you will:

• Assist in the design, analysis, and evaluation of fire protection systems, including fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
• Design of fire protection and sprinkler systems, Risk assessment and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
• Participate in Integrated Life Safety Systems Testing activities, documentation, and deficiency tracking.
• Conduct fire and building code research (NBCC, NFCC, provincial codes, NFPA, ULC, CSA) to support code compliance reviews and alternative solutions.
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports, design briefs, system specifications, and compliance documentation.
• Collaborate with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and other disciplines to integrate fire protection requirements into coordinated designs.
• Participate in site visits, inspections, commissioning activities, and client meetings to gain practical project experience.
• Support engineering calculations, design development, and technical deliverables under the supervision of senior team members.

About you

Recent graduate (or graduating in 2027) with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Fire Protection, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Chemical, or a closely related discipline) or a Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology.

Strong academic background with coursework, capstone projects, research, or technical studies related to fire protection engineering, fire dynamics, fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, life safety systems, building code analysis, risk assessment, or fire safety engineering.

Excellent communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills

Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.
