Job summary

International SOS is seeking a Full-time ERT/FF Captain to lead emergency response teams in Redwater, AB. The role requires day/night shifts, strong leadership, and relevant fire and medical certifications.

You will supervise safety protocols, coordinate with external agencies, and mentor new hires while ensuring regulatory compliance and incident readiness.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a leadership role.
  • Current ITLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Fire certifications: NFPA 1001 Level II; NFPA 472 or 1072 Hazmat Operations Level; NFPA 1002 Driver/Operator; NFPA 1006 High Angle Rope Rescue Technician; NFPA 1006 Confined Space Rescue Technician; NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor Level 1 or 2.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.
  • ICS 100, 200; H2S Alive.

Responsibilities

  • Occupational Health & Safety responsibilities: ensure task readiness, follow safety standards, and promote a positive safety culture.
  • Supervisor responsibilities: lead emergency response teams, ensure policy compliance, manage workloads and training.
  • Emergency operations responsibilities: lead rescue operations, provide ALS when needed, coordinate with AHJ and external agencies.
  • Incident oversight: monitor progress, adjust plans, and conduct post-incident reviews.
  • Escalation: notify International SOS Response Center and Medical Director when necessary.

Overall Purpose of Job

Plans and directs the emergency and non-emergency activities of their assigned emergency response team.

We are presently staffing for a FT ERT/FF Captain. Candidates must be able to commute to Redwater, AB and work day/night shifts for a 4 days or 5 days rotation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Occupational Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Task Readiness and Safe Execution: Understand assigned duties thoroughly, receive proper instruction and training, and use the appropriate tools and equipment to carry out tasks safely and effectively.
  • Follow and Promote Safety Standards: Perform all work in alignment with health and safety procedures to protect yourself and others. Demonstrate safe work behaviors and actively participate in inspections, audits, and site-specific safety programs.
  • Support a Positive Safety Culture: Encourage a proactive attitude toward safety initiatives and policies. Promptly report any hazards, incidents, injuries, or illnesses to your supervisor to ensure timely response and resolution.

2. Supervisor Responsibilites:

  • Policy Compliance: Follow all responsibilities outlined in International SOS Fire & Rescue policies.
  • Team Leadership: Set priorities, assign tasks, and manage workflows for emergency response teams, including auxiliary units.
  • Professional Conduct: Ensure team members follow client policies on behavior, dress, and safety. Promote respectful and professional interactions on site.
  • Emergency Response: Lead and coordinate responses to fires, spills, rescues (rope/confined space), and medical emergencies. Develop site-specific emergency and tactical response plans.
  • Safety & Equipment Oversight: Inspect, maintain, and track fire protection systems, life safety equipment, and emergency supplies. Keep detailed records of usage and inventory.
  • Training & Development: Create and deliver training for fire, rescue, and medical procedures. Mentor new hires and lead ongoing education for team members.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with site operations to plan and support hazardous tasks like hot work, confined space entry, and working at heights.

3. Emergency Operations Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Work within the scope of your license and follow all relevant regulatory and company policies.
  • Emergency Leadership: Act as the lead for your assigned rescue team during emergency operations, ensuring tasks are completed safely and effectively.
  • Medical Response: Provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) when needed and elevate medical or rescue issues through the proper chain of command.
  • Unified Command: Coordinate with external agencies and manage your team’s role during joint emergency operations.
  • Hazard Management: Identify risks at emergency scenes and take action to protect your team and others on site.
  • Strategic Input: Advise the client or Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) on rescue operations and safety strategies.
  • Policy Adherence: Ensure all actions align with client, AHJ, and International SOS emergency response policies.
  • Incident Oversight: Monitor incident progress, adjust plans as needed, and ensure objectives are met.
  • Post-Incident Review: Lead debriefings and participate in investigations when required.
  • Escalation Protocols: Notify the International SOS Response Center and Medical Director when necessary.
About You

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Experience in leadership role
  • Current ITLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Fire Certifications:
    • NFPA 1001 Level II
    • NFPA 472 or 1072 Hazamat Operataions Level
    • NFPA 1002 Driver/Operator
    • NFPA 1006 High Angle Rope Rescue Technician
