Job summary

International SOS in Redwater, AB is recruiting a Full-time ACP/FF Captain to perform emergency and non-emergency duties under Fire Officers, with day/night shifts on a 4 days or 5 days rotation.

You will lead the Fire & Rescue team, maintain equipment, and ensure safety standards while coordinating with clients and AHJ partners. Must have current ACP registration, ITLS and ACLS, and NFPA certifications; valid driver's license and H2S Alive; willing to commute within Redwater.

Qualifications

  • Fire and medical experience required.
  • Leadership experience in a safety-critical team.
  • Current ACP registration with Alberta College of Paramedics.
  • Current ITLS, ACLS certifications.
  • NFPA certifications listed in the job ad.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • ICS 100/200 training.
  • H2S Alive certification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the Fire & Rescue team.
  • Respond to fires, rescues, spills, and medical emergencies.
  • Maintain fire, rescue, medical equipment, and vehicles.
  • Coordinate emergency response activities and planning.

Overall Purpose of Job

Performs emergency and non-emergency duties under the direction of Fire Officers of an assigned fire and rescue team.

We are presently staffing for a FT ACP/FF Captain. Candidates must be able to commute to Redwater, AB and work day/night shifts for a 4 days or 5 days rotation.

Key Responsibilities
Occupational Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Make certain he or she fully understands their assigned tasks, have received proper instruction and training, and have the necessary tools and equipment to perform their duties safely and effectively.
  • Perform their duties in accordance with health and safety standards and procedures, to ensure their own safety and that of their co-workers.
  • Demonstrate and promote safe work behaviours in accordance with client and company safety standards and practices.
  • Actively participate in health & safety inspections and audits.
  • Participate in site-specific safety programs.
  • Encourage positive attitudes towards health and safety initiatives, programs and policies.
  • Make certain that hazards, incidents, injuries, and illnesses are reported to their immediate supervisor.
Supervisor Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise the Fire & Rescue team.
  • Assign work and ensure tasks are completed safely and effectively.
  • Ensure team members follow all site and company policies.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and professional workplace.
  • Coordinate emergency response activities and emergency planning.
  • Maintain fire, rescue, medical equipment, and vehicles.
  • Keep accurate records, reports, and inventories.
  • Attend meetings and work closely with site operations.
  • Train, mentor, and support team members, including new hires.
  • Respond to fires, rescues, spills, and medical emergencies.
  • Assist with medical clinic operations when needed.
  • Complete required training and stay current on procedures.
  • Represent International SOS professionally with clients and contractors.
Emergency Operations Responsibilities
  • Maintain standards of practice consistent with the governing regulatory body.
  • Perform the role of rescue team lead during emergency response operations for his or her assigned rescue team.
  • Provide ALS medical response when required and provide proper escalation for medical and chain of command for Fire/Rescue response.
  • Participate in unified command operations by coordinating with outside agencies and organizations and by overseeing the functional responsibilities of their assigned team.
  • Identify emergency scene hazards and determine actions needed to mitigate those hazards to ensure the safety of all personnel under their supervision.
  • Provide strategic and tactical recommendations to the client or AHJ representative(s) regarding all matters concerning rescue operations.
  • Ensure assigned tasks are carried out according to the policies of the client and/or the AHJ, and International SOS Fire and Rescue emergency operations policies.
  • Monitor the progress of the incident action plan to ensure objectives are accomplished and make any necessary adjustments according to the conditions and requirements of the incident.
  • Conduct a post-incident analysis or debrief with personnel involved in the incident operations.
  • Operate within the boundaries of his or her practice permit or license.
  • Ensure proper escalation to Intl.SOS Response Center and Medical Director.
  • Ensure his or her tasks are performed in accordance with International SOS Fire and Rescue emergency operations policies and guidelines.
About You
Must-haves (minimum requirements)
  • Fire and medical experience
  • Experience in leadership role
  • Current ACP registered with Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Current ITLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Fire Certifications:
    • NFPA 1001 Level II
    • NFPA 472 or 1072 Hazamat Operataions Level
    • NFPA 1002 Driver/Operator
    • NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Technician
    • NFPA 1006 Confined Space Resccue Technician Level
    • NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor Level 1 or 2
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • ICS 100, 200
  • H2S Alive
