Job description

JOB SUMMARY:


The Fire Alarm & Security Technician installs, troubleshoots, services, and repairs fire alarm and security systems, along with other fire and life safety products, with minimal supervision.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:


  1. Knowledge of various manufacturers' clean agent and high-pressure suppression systems.
  2. Proper use of tools and test equipment such as multi-meters, megger, laptops for programming, lifts, etc., to repair or replace fire alarm and suppression system components.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of fire alarm codes and standards.
  4. Programming and software skills with different fire alarm systems for component removal or replacement.
  5. Troubleshooting faults, including ground faults, in fire alarm systems.
  6. Repair or replacement of damaged fire alarm components like FACP, power supplies, alarm-initiating devices, etc.
  7. Handling, removing, and replacing explosive actuators such as squibs and gas cartridges safely, following procedures.
  8. Professional communication with internal/external customers and offsite monitoring companies.
  9. Punctuality and timely completion of scheduled projects.
  10. Use of Field Service Lightning for tracking work orders, materials, and time.
  11. Completion of documentation on work orders.
  12. Adherence to safety protocols, SDS, hazardous communication policies, and participation in weekly toolbox talks. Maintain awareness of safety documentation for each project.
  13. Maintaining company-provided vehicle in clean and good condition as per policies.
  14. On-call status as required for emergency service requests.
  15. Participation in seminars or training to stay updated on technology, codes, and standards.
  16. Training service technician trainees on fire protection aspects.
  17. Performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required; NICET or state-specific certification preferred.
  2. At least 2 years of experience in Fire Life Safety Industry, specifically in Fire Alarm systems.
  3. NICET Level 1 Fire Alarm Certification required.
  4. Professional computer skills preferred, with 2 years of experience.

Communication Skills:


  • Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with colleagues and clients.

Systems and Software Skills:


  • Preferred 2 years of experience with business intelligence systems like Sage 300 CRE.

Other Qualifications:


  • Valid driver's license with a clean record required.
  • Compliance with drug, alcohol, and background screening policies.
  • Ability to travel locally up to 90% of the time.

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:


Must be able to perform physical tasks such as lifting over 50 lbs, working at heights, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Use of PPE required. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for disabilities.
