Job summary

The Mason Group is assisting a large pension fund in recruiting a FinOps & Technology Cost Optimization Specialist for a 12-month assignment in Downtown Toronto. The role requires analyzing cloud and technology spend, reconciling data, and identifying optimization opportunities across multiple vendors.

The ideal candidate will bring strong FinOps experience and data analytics skills. You will work in a hybrid model (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) and collaborate with procurement, finance, and IT

Qualifications

• Must have strong FinOps/technology financial management experience.
• Experience analyzing large, complex datasets from multiple sources.
• Strong SQL and advanced Excel skills for data manipulation and reconciliation.
• Experience with visualization/analytics tools like Power BI/Tableau/Databricks/Snowflake.

Responsibilities

• Analyze large volumes of billing, usage, and pricing data from multiple technology and cloud vendors.
• Consolidate and normalize data for a consistent view of technology consumption and spending.
• Identify cost drivers, trends, and optimization opportunities in cloud/tech spend.
• Support cost allocation, showback/chargeback, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Compare actual spend to budgets, forecasts, and contracts; analyze variances.
• Integrate data from cloud providers, SaaS vendors, and internal systems for comprehensive insights.
• Work with large datasets using SQL, Excel, Power BI, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar platforms.

Our client, a large pension fund is looking for a FinOps & Technology Cost Optimization Specialist, operations to join them on a 12 month assignment

The position follows a hybrid work model, requiring three days per week onsite and two days remote from the client's office in Downtown Toronto. The ideal candidates will have strong data analysis and cloud financial management capabilities to support the analysis, reconciliation, and optimization of technology spend across multiple cloud and technology vendors.

• Analyze large volumes of billing, usage, consumption, pricing, and utilization data from multiple technology and cloud vendors.


• Consolidate and normalize data across vendors to provide a consistent view of technology consumption and spending.


• Perform detailed analysis of cloud and technology spending to identify key cost drivers, trends, and optimization opportunities.


• Support cost allocation, showback/chargeback, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.


• Analyze actual spending against budgets, forecasts, contracts, and expected consumption


• Combine data from cloud providers, SaaS vendors, internal financial systems, procurement systems, CMDB/application inventories, and other enterprise data sources.


• Work with large datasets using tools such as SQL, Excel, Power BI, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar analytical platforms.

Must have

• Strong experience in FinOps, technology financial management, cloud cost management, vendor analytics, or financial/data analysis.


• Demonstrated experience analyzing large and complex datasets from multiple sources.


• Strong SQL and advanced Excel skills, with the ability to manipulate, reconcile, and analyze large datasets.


• Experience with visualization and analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Databricks, Snowflake, or equivalent platforms.


• Experience analyzing cloud billing and consumption data from AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or other major technology vendors.


• Strong understanding of consumption-based pricing, cloud billing structures, commitments, discounts, and cost allocation.
