Job summary

Buildforth by Paradigm is seeking a Finishing Carpenter Journeyperson to execute high-quality finish carpentry on residential and commercial projects. You will install doors, trim, cabinetry, millwork, and related finishes, reading plans and ensuring precise measurements and flawless results.

Travel to various construction sites in British Columbia may be required. A formal carpentry apprenticeship and 3–5 years of finish carpentry experience are preferred, along with a valid driver’s license

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship program or formal training.
  • Red Seal or Journeyperson Carpenter certification preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of finishing carpentry experience (residential or commercial).
  • Strong proficiency in finish carpentry techniques, materials, and tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed plans, specifications, and shop drawings.

  • Install interior and exterior finish carpentry components including doors, baseboards, casings, crown moldings, window trims, cabinetry, shelving, and built-ins.
  • Measure, cut, assemble, and fit materials to precise specifications.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and detailed finish schedules.
  • Collaborate with Site Supervisors to plan sequencing of finish work and maintain project timelines.
  • Inspect work for alignment, fit, and finish quality; make necessary adjustments to ensure precision.

Finishing Carpenter JourneypersonJob Summary

The Finishing Carpenter Journeyman/woman is responsible for executing high-quality finish carpentry work including installation of doors, trim, cabinetry, millwork, and other interior and exterior finishing details. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, precision in measurements and cuts, and the ability to deliver work that meets high aesthetic and craftsmanship standards. The Finishing Carpenter works closely with Site Supervisors and other trades to complete projects on time and within scope. This position may involve travel to various construction sites throughout British Columbia and requires flexibility for extended shifts or rotations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install interior and exterior finish carpentry components including doors, baseboards, casings, crown moldings, window trims, cabinetry, shelving, and built-ins.
  • Measure, cut, assemble, and fit materials to precise specifications.
  • Perform fine detailing, sanding, staining, and finishing to achieve top-quality results.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and detailed finish schedules.
  • Collaborate with Site Supervisors to plan sequencing of finish work and maintain project timelines.
  • Inspect work for alignment, fit, and finish quality; make necessary adjustments to ensure precision.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Select appropriate materials, hardware, and fasteners for each project.
  • Work collaboratively with other trades to coordinate installation and ensure seamless integration of finishes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, protecting finished surfaces and ensuring safety standards are met.
  • Mentor apprentices or junior carpenters on finishing techniques and proper tool use.
  • Contribute to quality control and continuous improvement initiatives on site.
Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • High degree of accuracy, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks and standing for long periods.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Safety certifications (Fall Protection, WHMIS, First Aid) considered assets.
Work Environment
  • Work performed primarily indoors on active construction sites or in manufacturing/installation environments.
  • May require travel and overnight stays depending on project location.
  • Work involves bending, lifting, and handling materials; PPE use is mandatory.
  • Shifts typically range from 10–12 hours, with occasional overtime.
Compensation & Benefits
  • $34.50 – $42.50 per hour (based on experience).
