Job summary

Blackline Civil Inc. is seeking a Finish Excavator with experience in underground construction to perform precise excavation around live utilities and install underground infrastructure such as water, sewer, and storm systems.

The role focuses on safety, accuracy, and coordination with pipe layers and supervisors. You will operate excavators, read grade stakes and plans, and maintain trench safety while working around live utilities across Alberta projects.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of excavator experience in underground or civil construction.
• Experience around live utilities.
• Understanding of trenching and excavation safety practices.
• Ability to read grade stakes, plans, and utility drawings.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ground disturbance certification.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators for trenching, backfilling, grading, and utility installation
• Safely expose existing underground utilities
• Work around live gas, electrical, water, and telecom lines
• Follow grade stakes, trench depths, and site plans with precision
• Coordinate closely with pipe layers, labourers, and supervisors
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and routine equipment maintenance
• Maintain trench safety in compliance with regulations (shoring, sloping, benching)
• Ensure all work is performed according to safety standards and project specs

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled and safety-driven Finish Excavatorwith experience in underground construction. In this role, you’ll be responsible for precise excavation around live utilities and installation of underground infrastructure such as water, sewer, and storm systems.
