Blackline Civil Inc. is seeking a skilled Excavator Operator for our Alberta projects focused on underground utilities installation.

You will handle trenching, backfilling, and working around live gas, electrical, water, and telecom lines, following plans and safety standards. Ideal candidates have 2+ years in underground or civil construction, reading grade stakes and utility drawings, and a strong commitment to safety.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of excavator experience in underground or civil construction.
• Experience working around live utilities and trenching.
• Ability to read grade stakes, plans and utility drawings.
• Ground disturbance certification and valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled and safety-driven Excavator Operator with experience in underground construction. In this role, you’ll be responsible for precise excavation around live utilities and installation of underground infrastructure such as water, sewer, and storm systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate excavators for trenching, backfilling, grading, and utility installation
• Safely expose existing underground utilities
• Work around live gas, electrical, water, and telecom lines
• Follow grade stakes, trench depths, and site plans with precision
• Coordinate closely with pipe layers, labourers, and supervisors
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and routine equipment maintenance
• Maintain trench safety in compliance with regulations (shoring, sloping, benching)
• Ensure all work is performed according to safety standards and project specs

Qualifications & Experience

• 2+ years of excavator experience in underground or civil construction
• Proven experience working around live utilities
• Strong understanding of trenching and excavation safety practices
• Ability to read grade stakes, plans, and utility drawings
• Valid driver’s license
• Ground disturbance certification
