Key Responsibilities
1. Accounting Operations & Financial Close
  • Lead full month- and year-end close across sites and divisions, including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, intercompany transactions, financial statements and year-end working papers.
  • Prepare and review general ledger postings, sub-ledger and balance sheet reconciliations; investigate discrepancies and ensure records are accurate and supported.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash receipts, payroll accounting, credit and collections.
2. Cash Flow, Treasury & Working Capital
  • Forecast cash flow and monitor liquidity and working capital across sites and divisions, including receivables, payables, inventory and cash conversion.
  • Coordinate intercompany cash transfers, weekly payment priorities, collections and borrowing needs to ensure operating cash is available.
  • Coordinate banking and Canadian/U.S. foreign exchange matters with the COO.
3. Financial Reporting, Budgeting & Analysis
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, sales and gross margin reports, and budget-to-actual and prior-period analysis.
  • Support annual budgets and periodic forecasts for income statements, balance sheets, cash flow and capital expenditures.
  • Analyze financial and operational data to explain variances, identify cost drivers, trends, margin opportunities and inefficiencies, and recommend actions to the COO and operating leaders.
4. Manufacturing Finance & Project Evaluation
  • Maintain manufacturing cost accounting and inventory controls; analyze material, labour and overhead costs, production variances, inventory valuation and cost of sales.
  • Evaluate projects, business initiatives and capital expenditures using financial modelling, cost-benefit and payback analysis; review costs and results against assumptions.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, capital expenditure tracking and depreciation schedules; work with operations to improve cost visibility and profitability.
5. Controls, Systems, Compliance, Insurance & Benefits
  • Maintain internal controls, accounting policies, financial procedures, record retention and reliable ERP and reporting data; improve processes, data quality and efficiency.
  • Coordinate applicable sales tax filings, payroll remittances and corporate tax support; serve as primary finance contact for external accountants, auditors, lenders and government agencies.
  • Manage commercial insurance, including coverage reviews, renewals, broker negotiations on coverage and premiums, and policy or claims issues.
  • Coordinate employee benefits reviews with brokers/advisors; assess coverage, options, costs and renewal terms, and recommend changes to leadership.
  • Lead, coach and develop 3-4 direct reports; set responsibilities, deadlines and performance expectations, and ensure work quality and timeliness.
  • Remain hands‑on in key accounting activities while building cross‑training, backup coverage and consistent processes across sites.
  • Partner with the COO and functional leaders to resolve issues and improve financial and operational performance.
Qualifications & Experience
  • CPA designation required; 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 5 years in a senior finance or controllership role.
  • Multi‑site, multi‑division or multi‑entity accounting experience required; manufacturing, cost accounting and inventory experience strongly preferred.
