Position

Financial Controller for our businesses that sell and produce asphalt and concrete. The Controller will maintain a full set of accounting records accurately and on a timely basis. The successful candidate will be organized, able to work in a fast-paced environment, collaborate with the comptroller and President, and manage multiple tasks including special projects as needed.

Responsibilities

1. Working collaboratively with others in the accounting and finance department.
2. Supervising and mentoring finance team members, fostering professional development and a positive work environment.
3. Day-to-day accounting responsibilities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
4. Monthly reporting of interim financial statements.
5. Preparing annual budgets and conducting variance analysis regularly.
6. Monitoring and reporting cash flow, financial performance, and key performance indicators; identifying trends and areas for improvement.
7. Implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
8. Reconciling bank accounts, intercompany accounts, HST, and all government remittances.
9. Preparing year-end files for external accountants.
10. Regularly making recommendations for improving or changing standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

• CPA designation (minimum 2 years)
• 2–3 years of related experience in related industries preferred
• Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office; experience with accounting software, preferably Jonas and QuickBooks
• Knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises
