Job summary

Kassen Recruitment is seeking a Controller in Vaughan to lead the day-to-day finance function, mentor the accounting team, and drive financial excellence across operations.

You will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, internal controls, and strategic partnerships to strengthen processes and support long-term business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
  • CPA designation is required.
  • Extensive experience in corporate accounting, financial management, and financial reporting.
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, internal controls, and financial analysis.
  • Experience overseeing month-end and year-end close processes, external audits, and financial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and financial reporting technologies.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations including AP/AR, payroll, treasury, and general accounting.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes and prepare financial statements and management reports.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team to foster a collaborative environment.
  • Prepare financial analyses and provide recommendations supporting budgeting and forecasting.
  • Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and provide actionable insights for business decisions.
  • Oversee cash flow management and working capital planning.
  • Maintain accounting policies, internal controls, and financial procedures for compliance and efficiency.
  • Coordinate annual audit activities and liaise with external auditors and advisors.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Evaluate financial systems and identify process improvements through technology and automation.
  • Support special projects and strategic finance initiatives as required.

We're recruiting a Controller for a leadership opportunity where you'll oversee the day-to-day finance function, lead a high-performing accounting team, and help shape the organization's financial operations. Working closely with senior leadership, you'll oversee financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, internal controls, and operational accounting while identifying opportunities to strengthen processes and support the organization's long‑term objectives.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, treasury, and general accounting.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team while fostering a collaborative and accountable work environment.
  • Prepare financial analyses and provide recommendations that support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic business decisions.
  • Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and provide actionable insights to support operational and financial objectives.
