Our client, a dynamic and expanding company with operations in both Canada and the US, is seeking a highly experienced and autonomous Controller to lead its cross-border financial operations. Based in Montreal, this role is ideal for a strategic finance professional ready to own the entire finance function, ensure compliance across jurisdictions, and build a high-performing team to support ongoing growth.

This is a critical leadership position with a direct line to executive management and a strong impact on the company’s future structure.

1. Oversee all accounting, tax, and financial reporting activities for Canadian and US entities
2. Manage full-cycle accounting operations, intercompany transactions, and transfer pricing
3. Ensure compliance with tax regulations, payroll laws, and government reporting standards in both countries
4. Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (ASPE and US GAAP)
5. Supervise payroll processing, benefits administration, and remittances
6. Build, mentor, and lead a growing finance team
7. Develop financial policies, controls, and process improvements
8. Own budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
9. Act as the financial liaison to external auditors, tax consultants, and legal advisors
10. Provide strategic insight to the executive team to support business decisions and cross-border expansion
11. CPA designation (Canada or equivalent)
12. 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with prior experience in a Controller or senior finance leadership role
13. Strong knowledge of both Canadian and US tax, payroll, and accounting frameworks
14. Experience handling multi-entity, cross-border financial structures
15. Demonstrated success in building and managing finance teams
16. Autonomous, highly organized, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
17. Bilingual in English and French is a strong asset
