FP Inc. is seeking an experienced Financial Analyst for a 6-month contract in Toronto. The role focuses on maintaining IFRS-aligned financial records for commodities and FX, delivering daily to yearly P&L and balance sheet reporting, and preparing risk-based attributions by portfolio.

The candidate should have 8+ years in financial analysis, strong accounting knowledge, derivative and risk product familiarity, and advanced Excel skills. A university degree in finance or accounting is required.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience as a Financial Analyst.
  • Solid understanding of accounting, mark-to-market, and risk-based P&L attribution.
  • Thorough knowledge of derivative, lending and inventory products and the risks involved.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel.

  • Ensures accounts and financial records are maintained according to IFRS, policies and procedures.
  • Produce quality financial management information, including portfolio level P&L and balance sheet reporting.
  • Prepare actual and risk-based attributions by portfolio and reconcile results with front office estimates.
  • Review desk procedures to improve data collection and streamline reporting.
  • Understand trading desks' risk appetite and conduct risk in daily activities.
  • Ensure day-to-day operations meet risk and compliance requirements and support controls.
  • Foster a high performance, inclusive team environment.

Job description

An Initial AI Screening will be conducted for this role.


Contract Duration: 6 months


Typical Day in Role:


  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Ensures that the accounts and financial records of Scotiabank’s commodities (energy and metals) and foreign exchange businesses are being maintained according to International Financial Reporting Standards, policies and procedures set by Scotiabank Executive Offices and the local regulators.

  • Produce quality financial management information to the business line, including accurate daily/weekly/monthly/yearly portfolio level P&L and monthly balance sheet reporting

  • Prepare actual and risk based attributions by portfolio to explain and control the daily P&L reporting, investigating and reconciling results with front office estimates.

  • Continuously review assigned desk procedures to ensure that they are effective, efficient and controlled. Suggest and develop ongoing methods of improving accurate data collection globally, streamlining reporting, sharing best practices and cross-training team members.

  • Understand how the Trading Desk’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and trading results.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Must Have Skills:


  1. 8+ years of experience as a Financial Analyst

  2. Solid understanding of accounting, the concepts of mark-to-market accounting and risk based P&L attribution

  3. Thorough knowledge of derivative, lending and inventory products and the risks involved

  4. Strong proficiency in MS Products, specifically Excel


Nice-To-Have Skills:


  1. Strong understanding of bank reporting requirements and the regulatory reporting issues of varied regulators is recommended

  2. Power BI

  3. Experience with Excel Visual Basic

  4. UNIX experience


Soft Skills Required:


  • Strong Analytical Skills
