Project
The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.
Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.
Position
The Financial Analyst is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG's dynamic team. The Financial Analyst will lead and oversee invoice processing, payments, finance and accounting document control, accounts payable reporting, and management reports. The role focuses on maintaining efficient AP operations, process improvements, and providing analysis to support decision-making. The successful candidate reports directly to the Financial Controller and will support the company's Finance, Accounting, and Tax teams throughout the project and operations phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Process vendor invoices and payments accurately, timely, and in compliance with company policies and internal controls.
- Review, verify, and ensure proper approval and coding of expenses.
- Monitor aging reports to ensure payments are processed within agreed timelines and support cash forecasts.
- Prepare and process electronic transfers and payments.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal departments to resolve invoice and payment issues promptly.
- Maintain the AP ledger through reconciliations, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring data integrity.
- Prepare AP-related reports, accruals, and assist in month-end and year-end closing.
- Support audits by providing necessary documentation.
- Analyze spending trends to identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend process improvements or automation.
- Participate in continual process improvement initiatives.
- Assist in GST and other statutory reporting.
- Assist in budget preparation.
- Contribute to the preparation of weekly, monthly, and annual management reports and variance analysis.
Requirements
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in accounts payable or related finance roles.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Experience with SAP financial systems and reporting tools is preferred.
- Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance in accounts payable is an asset.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, especially A/P, accruals, and general ledger.
- Good time management skills and ability to handle high volumes.
- Problem-solving, reconciliation skills, and professional communication skills.
- Knowledge of tax codes, especially sales tax (GST/HST/PST).
- Experience working with multi-currency vendors or international payments.
- Experience with project accounting and cost centers.
