Financial Analyst – 6-Month Contract

Location: Downtown Toronto (Hybrid – 2 Days/Week Onsite)

Industry: Financial Services

Our client, a leading financial institution, is seeking a Financial Analyst to support their corporate finance and reporting team on a 6-month contract. This role is ideal for someone with 4+ years of financial analysis experience, strong technical skills in Excel and Power BI, and a passion for working with large datasets to drive business insights.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze and compare financial data across systems and sources to ensure accuracy and consistency
• Conduct variance analysis on key financial metrics to identify trends, and opportunities
• Support profit and loss (P&L) analysis for multiple business lines or departments
• Build and maintain dashboards in Power BI to visualize key financial data for business partners
• Prepare and post journal entries as part of the monthly and quarterly close processes
• Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
• Use advanced Excel functions (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, formulas) to clean, manipulate, and interpret large datasets
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders in finance and operations to gather data and support ad hoc reporting needs

Qualifications:

• 4+ years of progressive experience in a financial analyst or similar role
• Strong Excel skills – must be proficient with Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, advanced formulas; macros are a plus
• Hands-on experience with Power BI and dashboard/report creation
• Comfortable working with large volumes of financial data and performing deep-dive analyses
• Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and P&L reporting
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Must be actively pursuing a designation such as CFA, CPA, or similar
• Previous experience in a financial institution is preferred
