Dairy Farmers of Ontario is seeking a Financial Analyst to support organizational financial performance tracking and reporting. Who we are
Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO) is the marketing board for the largest sector of Ontario agriculture. Our mission is to provide leadership and excellence in the production and marketing of Canadian milk for a dynamic, profitable growing dairy industry. DFO’s current operations include 220 trucks transporting more than 3.1 billion litres of milk to 80 dairy processing plants within the province each year. About the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Accounting and Financial Planning, the Financial Analyst will support departments across the organization with ongoing tracking and reporting of their financial performance and spend. This role involves performing detailed financial analysis to ensure alignment with annual budgets, corporate strategies, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently. They are business-minded and bring a strong understanding of accounting and financial planning principles to the role.
To succeed, you will have:
• University degree in finance, accounting, and/or business administration
• Working towards CPA designation preferred
• Solid experience in financial analysis, planning, and reporting
• Experience synthesizing large volumes of data into meaningful insights
• Strong business and financial acumen
• Knowledge of performance metric systems
• Demonstrated customer focus and stakeholder support
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer analytic tools
• Knowledge of consumer goods industry
• Dairy industry knowledge is an asset
• Bilingual in English and French is an asset
Overview of the job responsibilities:
1. Monitor and track departmental spending to ensure proper coding, budget alignment, and compliance with GAAP.
2. Prepare and support monthly financial reports, forecasts, and accruals across departments.
3. Analyze financial data to explain variances, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.
4. Assist departments in developing accurate project and program budgets.
5. Ensure all finance-related deadlines are met, maintaining accuracy and timeliness in reporting.
6. Maintain and improve internal financial controls, including GL coding structures and compliance processes.
7. Reconcile departmental trackers with financial system data to ensure completeness and consistency.
8. Partner with the Communications and Marketing departments to support planning, budgeting, forecasting, and measurement for key initiatives (e.g., Calendar, Magazine, MilkUP).
9. Maintain monthly P&L and balance sheet reporting that incorporates known data and estimated variables.
10. Support other departments by helping to manage financial planning and reporting for projects. 11. Ensure cutoffs and forecasting timelines are consistently and accurately applied across all departments.
12. Build effective cross-functional relationships and apply financial expertise to guide decisions in line with organizational goals.
