Starting Salary Range: $70,000-83,000

ABOUT THE EQUALITY FUND

The Equality Fund is transforming the way that resources—and power—flow into the hands of women, girls, and trans people worldwide. THE OPPORTUNITY

The Financial Analyst provides expertise and support to the financial functions associated with the grant making program, internal control, and risk management. The Financial Analyst works collaboratively with both the finance and programs teams by supporting the grantee partner selection process, advising the grant making program team on financial and compliance matters, and in close collaboration with the Program Officers, developing and implementing tools to advance the financial capacity building of grantees. We are looking to hire two financial analysts to contribute their expertise towards resourcing women's rights groups around the world including in crisis and humanitarian contexts.

SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Support to grantee selection process and financial grant administration

  • Supports the grantmaking team in the grantee selection process by performing application reviews, organizational and risk assessments and budget analysis;
  • Process grant payments according to grant schedule and conduct any follow up needed to ensure the receipt of funds by the grantee partners;
  • Collaborates closely with the grantmaking team to understand the context of the program, the approach to feminist funding and the management of the relationship with grantees;
  • Provides financial expertise around conducting research, troubleshooting and resolving any situation arising from international financial transactions (exchange rates, varying country rules/regulations and fees);
  • Assists with the monthly and quarterly preparation of internal managerial report, donor reports and variance analysis;
  • Acts in accordance with our policies around nurturing a safe and respectful work environment; never engaging in harassment, coercion, sexual exploitation or abuse of any form, or anything else contrary to our code of conduct.

Financial capacity building of grantees

  • Provides capacity building and finance support to a portfolio of over 40 grantee partners around the world;
  • Supports activities and the development of various financial tools to advance the financial capacity building of grantees;
  • Contributes to the development of finance guidelines for grantee partners
  • Prepares and delivers webinars, workshops and training sessions for grantees

Financial Oversight and Donor Compliance

  • Conduct reviews and analysis of grantee’s financial reports and annual budget and provides feedback in coordination with Program Officers.
  • Prepares donor financial reports as needed in collaboration with the finance and Global Program teams
  • Monitors the compliance and adherence to donors’ (Global Affairs Canada, FCDO and others) contribution agreements and contractual obligations, as well as regulatory requirements from Canada Revenue Agency;
  • Supports donor and EF institutional annual audit requirements as needed
  • Supports the EF grantmaking annual budget process and forecast

Risk Management

  • Conduct enhanced sampling and financial reviews of active partners during regular reporting cycles
  • Regularly reassess and update internal financial risk ratings for partners and coordinate compliance support as needed
  • Maintain and monitor the partner risk register to ensure accurate tracking of potential risk factors
  • Support investigations and participate in on-site visits, including governance and financial control testing, to assess partner compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • At least five years of financial experience, including financial support for development and humanitarian programs, grants administration, project financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, reporting, and/or grants payments
  • At least three years of experience with not-for-profit grantmaking and/or international development, managing multiple programs and funders.
  • Knowledge of the realities of Global South based civil society organizations and good understanding of their context
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or similar education, certificate, and/or experience
  • Experience working with major government donors grant (ai: GAC, FCDO, USID, SIDA etc)
  • Ability to design and deliver financial training to partner organizations
  • Experience supporting audits, controls testing, and risk management.in Internal Control and Risk Management (ICRM)
  • Experience preparing and overseeing foreign exchange transactions, treatment of gains and losses and mitigation strategy
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills in English and French, Spanish, or Arabic
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills; attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multiple teams and team members
  • Flexible and adaptive, able to respond quickly and effectively to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, complex, fast changing environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, financial/accounting software and GSuite is required; familiarity with CRM is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated high ethical standards, integrity, honesty, and ability to work with sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • A commitment to feminist values, gender equality, and shifting traditional power systems

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Available to travel 2-4 times per year for up to 3-6 weeks total per year.
  • Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required when coordinating with people in other time zones or during periods of especially high workload
  • Willing and able to work remotely on mostly computer-based work

SELECTION PROCESS

  • Equality Fund does not employ the use of AI technology in the screening, recruitment, or selection process.
  • Equality Fund’s People, Equity, and Culture team will work with the hiring manager to do an initial screening of applicants. Please make sure to detail your experience in your resume/cover letter to ensure the committee has the information they need to assess your qualifications for the role. These interviews usually occur 1-2 weeks after the application deadline.
  • The hiring committee may conduct a second round of interviews, which may include an assignment.
