Autism Nova Scotia is seeking a Financial Analyst to join our Finance team and contribute to the effective financial management and accountability of our organization.

Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Analyst plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial information, supporting budgeting and forecasting, monitoring organizational and program funds, and preparing financial reporting for organizational leadership, the Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.

This is a collaborative role that works across Finance, Programs, Fund Development, and Autism Nova Scotia Chapters. The successful candidate will bring strong accounting knowledge, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a commitment to responsible stewardship of organizational resources.

What You’ll DoFinancial Management & Accounting

• Maintain accurate accounting records, financial documentation, and supporting schedules.
• Monitor and manage financial activity related to operations, programs, restricted grants, Chapters, projects, fundraising events, major gifts, and donations.
• Complete monthly reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Reconcile bank accounts, Visa accounts, investment accounts, sub-accounts, and associated budgets.
• Monitor deferred revenue and support appropriate allocation and use of financial resources.
• Review aged payables and receivables and support appropriate follow-up.
• Support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
• Provide guidance and support to Finance Coordinators on bookkeeping, reconciliations, financial procedures, and internal controls.
• Maintain strong financial controls and safeguard confidential financial information.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting

• Maintain and regularly update organizational and program budgets.
• Support cash flow management and financial forecasting.
• Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and financial reports.
• Analyze financial information, identify trends and significant variances, and provide information to support decision-making and strategic planning.
• Prepare and maintain accurate working papers, spreadsheets, schedules, and supporting documentation.
• Work with Autism Nova Scotia Chapters to support financial policies, procedures, record keeping, and reporting.
• Conduct Chapter financial reviews and audits as required.
• Work with Program teams to support timely invoicing and accurate recording of payments.
• Collaborate with Fund Development to reconcile fundraising revenue and charitable tax receipts.
• Provide financial information and insights to support fundraising activities and organizational initiatives.
• Communicate with staff, volunteers, sponsors, families, members of the public, and external partners regarding financial matters as required.

Audit, Tax & Compliance

• Support external auditors with annual financial statements, working papers, and supporting documentation.
• Prepare HST reports and support the Registered Charity Information Return filing process.
• Maintain year-end schedules and supporting documentation.
• Support compliance with CRA requirements and organizational financial policies and procedures.
• Contribute to audits, independent reviews, and other financial compliance activities.
• Stay informed about relevant accounting, tax, and regulatory changes and support updates to financial practices and procedures.

Collaboration & Organizational Support

• Build effective working relationships across Finance and the broader organization.
• Provide financial information and analysis to support operational and strategic priorities.
• Participate in meetings with leadership, committees, Board members, Chapters, auditors, and external partners.
• Contribute to a culture of accountability, collaboration, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
• Maintain a high standard of confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity.

What You Bring

• A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• three years of relevant accounting or financial experience.
• Enrollment in a CPA program is considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and reconciliation processes.
• Experience with month-end closing, financial statement preparation, grant reporting, audits, and regulatory reporting.
• Experience in a nonprofit, charitable, or public-sector environment is considered an asset.
• Payroll experience is considered an asset.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate financial information into clear and useful insights.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
• Strong professional judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive financial information.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and financial management systems.
• A commitment to ethical financial practices, accountability, and professional integrity.
• Knowledge of Autism Nova Scotia's programs and services and/or autism is considered an asset.
