ICM Asset Management is an alternative asset manager focused on owning, operating and investing in real assets. We offer retail, private client and institutional investors an array of investment opportunities focused on real estate, private equity, private debt and infrastructure strategies, and music royalties. We are seeking a Financial Analyst to support the investment management team in performing market research, assisting in the generation of financial projections and underwriting models, and updating and maintaining portfolio models.
The Financial Analyst must be a team player, have excellent knowledge of accounting and financial analysis techniques, possess a desire to take on new challenges, and work hard to achieve time sensitive objectives. The successful candidate will have a minimum of one to five years of related work experience, be expected to have very strong Microsoft Office/Excel skills and be able to explore financial data and drive the process of organizing and compiling information and reports from financial statements and other sources. Experience with Argus Real Estate Software will be an asset. This role will report to the Director of Investments and Portfolio Management.
Responsibilities:
- Compile and investigate financial information and documentation
- Develop and maintain complex Excel models for current and prospective holdings with the goal of forecasting and monitoring portfolio performance
- Work with management to generate quarterly and annual reports for the company’s funds and investments
- Support the creation of investment committee summary packages for new investments, and investment summary packages for new opportunities being presented to potential investors
- Liaise with the sales and marketing departments regarding investment philosophy and other information regarding assets and portfolios of assets
- Research macroeconomic changes, keep appraised of pertinent developments within the industry, and summarize research findings into actionable conclusions
- Monitor the ongoing financial and operating aspects of portfolio investments including preparation of monthly performance analysis and benchmarking investment metrics
- Review loan agreements, lease agreements, monitor and calculate portfolio summary statistics including Weighted Average Lease Expiry (WALE), capitalization rates, and IRRs
- Review monthly property reports in order to maintain internal databases that track average rent, tenant sub-sector composition, and occupancy
- Monitor the investment landscape across submarkets and asset classes with an eye to observing macro themes and unlocking value
- Liaise with our accounting team and auditors to develop and manage the valuation process in accordance with our policies
- Create presentations on investment strategies, performance, and new opportunities for discussions with institutional and retail investors and other potential stakeholders
- Explore new opportunities to create value, streamline processes, and enhance team communication and overall productivity
- Accept ownership for accomplishing new and different requests/objectives from management team
- Any other tasks that the management team may request of the analyst
Qualifications:
- Energetic, ethical, accountable and have a strong “can-do” attitude
- Interested in real estate and the investment industry in general
- Understanding of financial metrics and concepts both broadly and specific to the real estate industry
- Have a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or economics and are currently working or have worked for a minimum of 1-5 years in a similarly analytical role
- A CFA charter, progression through the program or a willingness to enroll
- Analytical by nature and proficient in your understanding of financial statements and financial reporting
- Able to demonstrate excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask to meet stringent deadlines
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and third parties
- Able to work independently and as a team member
- Very knowledgeable in MS Office, particularly in Excel, and willing to learn new skills and software
Not Required but Nice to Have:
- Experience with Argus software
- Experience with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator
