Position Summary

We are seeking a Financial Analyst to join our team, working collaboratively to enhance the financial planning, analysis, and reporting functions across the organization.
Under the direction of the Comptroller, the Financial Analyst provides financial reporting, analysis, and planning support to program leaders and decision-makers. This role involves budgeting, forecasting,reconciliation, audit preparation, and tax reporting. The Financial Analyst will also engage in community relations activities to support accountability and transparency in financial practices.
What You'll Do
Planning and Administration
- Prepare documentation, reports, summaries, and records relating to financial analysis.
- Assist with financial planning initiatives and preparation of budgets.
- Maintain records in accordance with Seabird Island policies and applicable legislation.
- Coordinate financial data for corporate and charitable tax filings.
Service Delivery
- Analyze and interpret financial and statistical data and reports.
- Work with department and program managers to ensure accurate tracking of budgets and expenditures.
- Conduct reconciliation procedures, cost analysis, and overhead allocations.
- Provide full cycle accounting for assigned ventures.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity in all financial matters.
Reporting and Evaluation
- Prepare year-end working papers and assist during annual audits.
- Assist in the preparation of internal and audited financial statements.
- Print financial reports from accounting software for leadership review.
- Identify trends, risks, and areas for improvement in financial performance.
Team and Interdepartmental Collaboration
- Collaborate with finance team members and administrative staff.
- Liaise with external auditors and funding agencies.
- Recommend improvements to financial systems and processes.
Other Duties
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.
Working / Special Conditions
- Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Review Program Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years.
- Initial and ongoing commitment to the values and guidelines of Sq'éwqel (Seabird Island Band), including our policies, procedures, standards of practice, and laws, is essential. This commitment supports our collective work, the community, and the responsibilities of this role.
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license and have access to safe and reliable transportation,
insured for community-based use, to effectively attend events, trainings, workshops, etc. at other
locations.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the
needs and schedules of clients and community needs. Employees will be given as much notice as
possible to any changes in schedule.
What You Bring
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. We also recognize and value cultural knowledge and experience gained through other forms of education and training, including teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
- Formal education or training in financial reporting, auditing, or accounting software. Other forms of post-secondary education and training, including teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers, will be considered.
- Three years of increasingly responsible finance analysis experience (preferably in a Non-Profit or First Nations environment.)
- Demonstrated ability to complete full cycle accounting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable accounting technologies.
- Strong planning and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyze and processes information.
- Motivation to develop and maintain internal and external relationships.
- Commitment to ethical behavior with a willingness to adhere to all company policies and current financial legislation.
- Experience working within Indigenous communities, focusing on finance, accounting, or financial planning.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Preferred:
- Indigenous candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

- Knowledge and understanding of Seabird Island’s culture, traditions, teachings, community dynamics.
- Ability to respond quickly and professionally to community or colleague needs and inquiries.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

- Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues.
- Experience working within Indigenous communities and applying culturally safe practices.
- Understanding of intergenerational trauma and its impacts on Indigenous peoples and communities.
