Job summary

Fraser Basin Council is seeking a Financial Accountant for a one-year term in Vancouver with a hybrid work arrangement. Starting October 13, 2026, you will support the organization’s financial management for programs and activities.

Reporting to the Acting Senior Finance Manager, duties include full-cycle accounting, reconciliations, project accounting, monthly/quarterly/annual reporting, and assisting with audits. A Bachelor's degree and 3–5 years of experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of full-cycle accounting experience.
  • Working knowledge of applicable accounting standards and practices.
  • Experience preparing financial reports and account reconciliations.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively within a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective cross-functional relationships and work collaboratively with program and departmental staff.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to evolving organizational priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Performs full-cycle accounting as part of the Finance Team, including maintaining accurate and complete financial records and ensuring transactions are recorded on time.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including departmental reports.
  • Prepares and reviews monthly and quarterly balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Prepares and reviews bank reconciliations.
  • Supports project accounting activities and provides financial information and assistance to program and departmental staff.
  • Assists with the annual external audit, including preparing supporting documentation and responding to information requests.
  • Serves as backup for payroll and benefits processing, reporting, and required filings.
  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen financial processes and improve efficiency, including researching and evaluating relevant software.
  • Assists with special projects, such as software implementations and RFP processes.
  • Provides financial guidance and assistance to FBC staff as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The Fraser Basin Council Society (FBC) is a non-profit organization that advances sustainability solutions and practices across BC through strategic convening, facilitation, education and program management. We are seeking a full-time Financial Accountant to join our Finance team for a one-year term. They will support the effective financial management of FBC activities. This position is based in our Vancouver office and is delivered through a hybrid work arrangement (a combination of home and office work).

Position Overview

Reporting to the Acting Senior Finance Manager, the Financial Accountant supports the organization’s accounting and financial management activities, with primary responsibility for:

  • Full-cycle accounting
  • Account reconciliations
  • Project accounting and related departmental support

The Financial Accountant works closely with the Acting Senior Finance Manager and FBC staff to provide financial information, guidance, and support that contribute to the effective financial management of FBC’s programs and operations.
