Job summary

Sonepar Canada, Inc. is seeking an experienced accounting professional based in Brampton to join our finance team. This role focuses on accurate financial reporting, month-end closings, and supporting audits across a busy distribution environment.

You will manage journal entries, reconciliations, and commissions, while leveraging Infor SX, Power BI, and Cognos to improve financial insight for branch managers. A CPA is an asset, and five years of relevant experience is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor/College degree with accounting option; CPA designation is a plus.
  • 5 years of experience in a similar role, ideally in retail or distribution.
  • Experience with financial close processes and IFRS knowledge is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • ERP experience with Infor SX, Power BI and Cognos is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries at Month End/Year End.
  • Complete monthly account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Compute and distribute monthly commissions.
  • Reconcile fixed assets and report results.
  • Support audits with GL extractions for external/internal teams.
  • Review bank and tax reconciliations; adjust entries as needed.
  • Provide reports and financial analysis to managers for decision making.
  • Assist in process improvements and automation projects.

Scope of the Position:
  • Based in our Brampton location and reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing accurate and timely finance and accounting information, as well as accounting support as required.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and post journal entries at Month End / Year End within established deadlines. Including accruals, reclassifications and adjustments
  • Complete monthly account reconciliation and investigate discrepancies
  • Accrual, calculation and distribution of monthly commissions
  • Fixed assets reconciliation and reporting
  • Provide some GL extractions/back-up for both the external and internal audits
  • Reviewing bank reconciliations, analyze and investigate variances, post additional journal entries if needed
  • Reviewing tax reconciliations, analyze and investigate variances, post additional journal entries if needed
  • Any other requests from the Accounting Supervisor (cheque request, insurance, vehicles...)
  • Assist in process integrity and improvements, including developing automated solutions
  • Provide reports and financial analysis as required to senior/branch/operations managers to drive improved decision making
  • Variance analysis
  • Support Operations team and Branch Managers in day-to-day financial matters
  • Special Projects as required
Requirements:
  • University/College Education, with an accounting option; CPA designation an asset
  • 5 years experience in a similar position, ideally in a retail or distribution business;
  • Experience with financial close processes and financial statement preparation, good understanding of full-cycle accounting; knowledge in IFRS is an asset.
  • The ability to analyze and summarize information to understand findings and issues;
  • An analytical mind and detail oriented; inquisitive, with the ability to work conscientiously and consistently;
  • Organization, communication, and team-work skills. Rigorous, adaptable, positive attitude/being proactive.
  • Ability to work in close collaboration with a variety of individuals and groups;
  • Experience with ERP systems, Infor SX, MS Power BI and Teams, & COGNOS is an asset
