Job summary

The City of Thunder Bay is seeking a Supervisor Finance to lead a newly structured finance team, overseeing transaction processing, reconciliations, and GL support, while driving process improvements across municipal programs.

You will collaborate with Finance leadership and other departments to ensure accuracy, accountability, and timely reporting, while coaching staff and building strong internal controls.

Qualifications

• Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field with 3 years of progressive experience in finance.
• Diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field with 5 years of progressive experience in finance.
• Supervisory or lead experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes.
• Ability to coordinate workflows and manage multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Finance Unit day-to-day operations and set priorities.
• Develop divisional policies and strategic initiatives for the division.
• Develop and manage operating and capital budgets and monitor expenses.
• Supervise Finance Clerks and Senior Finance Clerk, including training and performance management.
• Oversee payables processing and general ledger support activities; ensure accuracy and issue resolution.
• Provide guidance on complex transactions, policy interpretation, and system processes.
• Review reconciliations and ensure timely investigation of variances.
• Coordinate month-end and year-end activities and working papers.
• Monitor workload distribution and maintain service levels and deadlines.
