Coast Funds is an Indigenous-led conservation finance organization created to deliver funding and services in support of coastal First Nations’ goals for stewardship and economic development in the Great Bear Rainforest and Haida Gwaii - part of one of the world’s last remaining coastal rainforests. As a globally recognized foundation, Coast Funds serves as a successful model of Indigenous-led conservation finance, demonstrating that First Nations’ leadership and self-determination are key to permanently protecting ecologically and culturally significant places on Earth.

Today, Coast Funds continues to strengthen the well-being of First Nations and the ecological integrity of the Great Bear Coast. To date, they have approved over $118 million towards more than 470 economic development and conservation projects in the region.

First Nations are expanding their impactful work to the marine region of the Great Bear Sea, which encompasses over 10 million hectares of marine and coastal ecosystems on the coast of BC. It is one of the most productive cold-water ecosystems in the world and has sustained coastal peoples for thousands of years.

In recognition of the newly added Great Bear Sea focus, Coast Funds and First Nations are continuing to create new opportunities through strategic engagements with government, philanthropy, and industry to secure the well-being of First Nations and ecosystems across the region. The Great Bear Sea initiative will bring an additional $335 million of funds under Coast Funds management. Over the next 20 years, Coast Funds expects the PFP will support more than 3,000 new jobs and 200 new businesses in marine stewardship, transportation and renewable energy, sustainable fisheries, eco-cultural tourism, and manufacturing and processing.

Coast Funds is growing and looking to add a new Finance Manager to the team. Working alongside the CFO with 2 direct reports, the Finance Manager will ensure Coast Funds’ financial operations are transparent, accurate, and efficient. As a key resource for financial oversight, this role guides reporting, compliance, and investment management to support long-term sustainability.

Core responsibilities include maintaining financial integrity, ensuring timely reporting, and supporting investment activities. By upholding accountability and aligning financial strategies with the Nations we serve, this position strengthens trust with Indigenous communities, funders, and partners, thereby advancing Coast Fund’s mandate.

As a member of a small, close working team, you will collaborate and be able to foster a high-trust environment within the organization and with the First Nations Coast Funds serves.

We do have a more detailed job description. Please contact us for that information as well as visit www.coastfunds.ca for more information on the company.

Our ideal candidate

Role

This role is ideal for a relatively new CPA with some degree of insight as well as a deep desire to drive forward investment management and non-profit accounting while contributing to the advancement and protection of the Great Bear Rainforest and Haida Gwaii regions as well as the Great Bear Sea. Key attributes for our ideal candidate include:

  • CPA designation with 2+ years of post-designation experience - both from Canada.
  • Strong background in financial analysis, budgeting, and regulatory compliance – experience in a not-for-profit organization would be an asset.
  • Comprehensive, proven experience managing external audits.
  • Strong understanding of investment management and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with finance system implementation and change management.
  • Experienced with MS Suite (in particular Excel and complex spreadsheets), Adobe Acrobat, Salesforce and cloud-based financial software systems.
  • Strong business communication skills in both written and verbal form, with an ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Experience working for or with Ingenious communities and organizations would be ideal.
  • Enable informed business decisions and navigate financial partnerships with respect and professionalism.
  • Compassionate, good listener, and loves a good challenge while working with the unknown.
  • Acts with integrity and neutrality to develop and maintain high-trust relationships.

Coast Funds strongly encourages Indigenous candidates to apply. They value the leadership, innovation, and unique perspectives that Indigenous professionals bring to their team. Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, and lived experiences are vital to and at the heart of Coast Funds' work.

Compensation

Competitive salary of $105,000 to $115,000, based on experience. Coast Funds’ competitive benefits package includes a flexible health and dental plan, RRSP contribution, committed colleagues, a culture of innovation, and the sense of accomplishment that comes from contributing to a small team that’s working hard to make a difference in BC’s coastal communities.

They do have a hybrid model consisting of 3 days in the downtown office and 2 days from home, unless work circumstances require more time at the office or in the community.
