Job summary

Chandos Construction in Burnaby, BC, is seeking an experienced finance professional to lead project accounting and district-level financial planning. You will partner with project teams and leadership to ensure accurate forecasting and strong internal controls.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of relevant work experience in construction project accounting or public accounting.
  • Accounting or Finance degree; CPA designation is an asset.
  • Experience with construction industry clients; familiarity with GC or construction management is strong asset.
  • Proficiency in Excel; knowledge of Power BI and data queries is an asset.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Finalize work-in-progress schedules and ensure timely project closures.
  • Lead monthly project forecast reviews and financial reporting accuracy.
  • Identify and communicate risks to enable informed decision-making.
  • Support annual operational and financial planning with district leaders.
  • Improve efficiency through coaching, training, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor KPIs and drive resolution for district issues.
  • Support accounting and operations processes with robust internal controls.
  • Provide ongoing coaching to accounting and operations teams.

Job Description
What You’ll Do
  • Finalize work‑in progress schedules and ensure projects are closed out in a timely manner
  • Lead monthly project forecast reviews, ensuring accuracy of both project and overall district financial reporting
  • Work closely with project teams and district leadership to proactively identify risks, ensuring reliable financial reporting which will inform decision‑making
  • Support the districts leadership teams with annual operational and financial planning processes
  • Identify ways to improve operational efficiency through ongoing support, training, and continuous improvement
  • Monitor district KPI’s to identify issues and implement solutions to drive resolution
  • Support all accounting and operational processes, ensuring all internal controls are properly adhered to
  • Provide on‑going coaching and training to both accounting and operations teams
Qualifications
  • 10 years of relevant work experience (construction project accounting or public accounting)
  • Accounting or Finance Degree, CPA designation is an asset
  • Experience working in or servicing clients in the construction industry, working for a general contractor or construction management company is strong asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, knowledge of tools such as Power BI and data queries is an asset
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills

Compensation Transparency

Expected Salary: $105,000 - $130,000

The base salary range for this role is listed above and may vary based on your experience. This position also includes a competitive bonus program. Throughout the interview process, we’ll discuss your background to determine the best alignment for your experience level.
