Job summary

Gypsum Management & Supply, Inc. (GMS) and Slegg Building Materials seek an Intermediate Accountant to join the Finance team. This role maintains accurate financial records, performs reconciliations, and supports month-end close and reporting across multiple locations.

The successful candidate will work with field locations and stakeholders to ensure transactions are recorded correctly, resolve issues promptly, and help drive efficient processes using Dynamics 365, Excel, and related tools.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of progressive accounting experience in a multi-location retail or distribution environment.
  • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), or equivalent post-secondary education with a focus in Accounting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a comparable ERP system.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis.
  • Experience with bank reconciliations and high-volume transaction environments.
  • Experience with Concur or similar expense management systems is an asset.
  • Basic familiarity with Power BI and ability to refresh standard reports and dashboards is an asset.

  • Prepare and maintain daily and monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts with high transaction volumes.
  • Support Accounts Payable by assisting with invoice processing and issue resolution.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Process and review employee expenses through Concur.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports for the Controller and Finance team.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requirements and documentation.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Intermediate Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing reconciliations, supporting month-end close activities, and assisting with financial reporting requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with field locations and internal stakeholders to ensure transactions are recorded accurately, issues are resolved promptly, and financial processes are executed efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a professional representative of the company when interacting with employees, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, customer service, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform store cash, till, Moneris, and gift card reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and maintain daily and monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts with high transaction volumes.
  • Support Local Finance Representatives with cash management, till balancing, and point-of-sale (POS) related inquiries.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • Review transactional data for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established accounting policies and procedures.
  • Support the Accounts Payable function by assisting with invoice processing, research, and issue resolution as required.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entry preparation and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Process and review employee expense reports through Concur.
  • Prepare and process electronic payments through CIBC banking platforms.
  • Prepare Eco Fee remittances and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requirements by providing supporting schedules and documentation.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis for the Controller and Finance team.
  • Participate in special projects and continuous process improvement initiatives as assigned.

Technical Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multi-location retail or distribution environment.
  • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), or equivalent post-secondary education with a focus in Accounting.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a comparable ERP system.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis.
  • Experience preparing bank reconciliations and working with high-volume transaction environments.
  • Experience with Concur or similar expense management systems is considered an asset.
  • Basic familiarity with Power BI, including the ability to navigate and refresh standard reports and dashboards, is considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
