Salary Range: SP3, Level 5, $92,320 - $115,400 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

The Opportunity
Join the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) as a Finance Business Partner within the Finance branch. Finance Business Partners are directly involved and accountable for all aspects of accounting at the AER which includes internal and external budget planning process, allocation and analysis of AER’s branch operations, staffing, buildings, fleet, IT, and Enterprise projects. You will provide a wide range of financial planning and accounting services to various levels of management to ensure that the strategic direction of the AER is aligned with the business strategy through relevant financial information and analysis and ensuring all transactions comply with generally accepted accounting principles and standards.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Develop and maintain relationships with assigned clients, act as the key financial advisor proactively providing financial advisory services through analysis, support and recommendations to management regarding financial portion of three-year business plan, development of annual budget, maintenance of accurate financial forecasts and related scenario analysis through monthly and quarterly in-depth forecast reviews. Provide recommendations that help influence strategies and initiatives to ensure organizational goals are met utilizing the most efficient use of financial resources and assets.
Prepare, review, and analyze variance between current year actuals, budget, and forecasts against previous year actual for various stakeholder including external auditors (OAG) and the Audit and Finance Committee.
Identify and contribute to the ongoing development of financial systems and processes to enhance reporting and planning capabilities for business units and organization. Perform ad hoc reporting for projects and other assignments.
Support the Finance branch in protecting financial assets of the organization and ensure compliance with accounting standards through ongoing mentorship, training, and knowledge transfer to junior staff. Assist with training and education of assigned clients on accounting, business process and controls, budgeting, and planning topics.
Review contracts, purchase orders, and invoices to ensure alignment with spending plans. Reduce complexity and improve efficiency by proactively identifying opportunities for increased performance and delivering processes that are both streamlined and repeatable.
Assist Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) in the fulfillment of FP&A responsibilities, tasks, and initiatives on an on-going basis.
What we’re looking for in you:
Bachelor’s degree or other related education. Chartered Professional Account (CPA) is a requirement.
5-7 years progressive and relevant financial business partner experience.
Experience in cost estimating, project accounting, overhead allocations, and timekeeping integration.
Experience with Adaptive Insights Business Planning Tool, Workday, and proficient MS Office suite skills are considered assets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; including the ability to present complicated financial information to non-financial leaders
Ability to apply discretion as it relates to confidential or sensitive information.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and/or adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
