Job summary

DS Consultants Ltd., a BluMetric company, is seeking a Field Technician to join our Vaughan team. This role offers hands-on experience in civil engineering, field and laboratory testing, and geotechnical projects.

Based in Vaughan, the position requires field mobility, strong reporting, and adherence to safety standards. Training and development programs are provided, and applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Qualifications

• Field experience in soil and asphalt testing and compaction
• Familiar with geotechnical test procedures and local standards
• Eligible for Engineer-in-Training status or professional licensure preferred

• Provide technical field and laboratory services
• Site inspections and material testing (soil, asphalt, concrete) using a nuclear gauge
• Prepare field reports and assist junior staff
• Ensure health and safety practices on site
• Coordinate with teams on geotechnical projects

Job description

The Opportunity:

DS Consultants Ltd. is currently seekinga Field Technicianto join our team in the Vaughan office. Responsibilities:

• Provide technical services in a field, and laboratory environment
• Duties can include but not limited to site inspections, material testing (soil, asphalt, concrete) using a nuclear gauge, material sampling, data collection and general geotechnical work supervision
• Providing technical assistance in materials related projects and tasks, including carrying out field and laboratory testing of various materials on construction sites, in-situ density testing and testing of concrete and asphalt materials
• Working on all assignments on projects of low to high complexity
• Soil/rock identification and assist junior staff to prepare field reports
• Completing analysis of information and report preparation
• Ensuring workplace health and safety practices are followed at all times

Qualifications:

• Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Technologist Diploma or Civil Engineering Degree
• CCIL Certifications in asphalt and concrete is an asset
• Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist (C.Tech/C.E.T.), Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.), Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or eligible for Engineer –in- Training (E.I.T.) status – preferred

• Minimum two (2) years of field experience in soil and asphalt compaction, concrete testing, subgrade evaluation
• Proficiency with common geotechnical and other software; Familiar with Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) and Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS) test procedure and requirements, and local municipal standards and specifications
• Good understanding of geotechnical principles
• Strong knowledge of geotechnical concepts, materials and asphalt
• Must be mobile and willing to work on field
• Strong workplace health and safety practices
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer usage
• Ability able to carry out assignments with minimal supervision

• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs as required

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong report writing skills and verbal communication in English are essential
• You demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate effectively and to proactively respond to time-sensitive issues
• An Ontario Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle
