Job summary

EXP is seeking a Field Technician in Kingston, ON to support on-site testing for concrete, soils and asphalt and to collaborate with our Geotechnical team. You will perform field tests, document results, interact with site contractors and ensure safety and quality on a range of construction projects across Ontario.

You must have strong math skills, good communication in English, and a valid Canadian driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must have strong people skills and ability to communicate in English with staff and clients.
• 2–5 years of experience in concrete/soils/asphalt testing would be advantageous.
• Strong general math skills and a valid Canadian driver’s license.
• Diploma from an accredited Civil Technology program or equivalent would be an asset.
• CCIL or ACI Certification would be preferred.

Responsibilities

• Execute on-site concrete tests including casting cylinders, slump tests, and air content tests.
• Perform soil compaction tests on construction sites.
• Execute soil sampling and asphalt hot-mix sampling on site.
• Some in-lab work such as testing cylinders and gradation analysis.
• Interact with on-site clients (contractors) to provide excellent service.

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Geotechnical team, based in Kingston, ON office and have the opportunity to work on the various projects.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

• Executing on site concrete tests which includes casting cylinders, slump test, and air content tests
• Perform soil compaction tests on various construction sites
• Executing soil sampling and asphalt hot-mix sampling on site
• Some in-lab work, such as testing cylinders, gradation analysis, proctors, etc
• The technicians will interact with the on-site clients (contractors) to provide excellent service and a quick response to their testing needs

What your experience looks like

• Must have strong people skills, and ability to work with wide variety of staff and clients
• Must be able to communicate (verbally/writing) in English for field and formal reports
• 2-5 years of experience in concrete/soils/asphalt testing experience would be advantageous
• Strong general math skills
• Diploma from an accredited Civil Technology program or equivalent would be an asset
• Must have a valid Canadian driver’s license
• CCIL or ACI Certification would be preferred

The hourly range for this role is between$50k - $65k. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
