Job summary

LB Foster is seeking a field technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot and train customers on friction management lubricators across North America. You will travel weekly to sites, work outdoors on railways, and communicate with customers and internal teams to ensure reliable operation.

The role requires basic hand and power tool use, adherence to PPE and safety rules, and a valid driver’s license with a clean record. E-Railsafe and related training may be required.

Qualifications

  • Experience using basic hand and power tools.
  • Must wear PPE and follow safety rules.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • E-Railsafe required upon hire and other client-site training may be needed.

Responsibilities

  • Travel weekly to provide installation, maintenance, troubleshooting/repair and customer training for LB Foster friction management lubricators.
  • Liaise with customers and internal departments for product development and relationship-building.
  • Work outdoors on railway tracks under varied weather conditions.
  • Manage personal travel expenses and company tools/credit cards where applicable.

Who You Are…
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • 0-2 years of hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, electrical experience preferred.
  • Require valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract.
  • E-Railsafe required upon hire, plus other customer-based training as may be required to access work sites
What Do You Need…
  • Experience using basic hand and power tools.
  • Strong communication (verbal and computer) and time management skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, etc.) a plus.
  • A high degree of reliability, professionalism, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision are critical attributes for this position.
  • Sound writing skills for work report submissions.
  • Ability and willingness to follow all applicable safety and operating rules for client railways in a professional and conscientious manner.
  • Must wear Personnel Protective Equipment PPE (Hard Hat, Safety glasses, Gloves and Hearing protection as required).
  • Maybe required to act as watchman / lookout and shall devote full attention to detecting the approach of trains and communicating a warning thereof to other personnel.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, walk, use hands and finger to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch, for prolonged periods of time.
  • Will be required to operate impact equipment, power tools, hand tools under heavy loads, and manual earth moving tools as required for trenching of ditches to bury hoses and electrical cables.
  • Overtime hours may be necessary as workloads dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
Responsibilities
  • Traveling on a weekly basis to provide installation, maintenance, troubleshooting / repair and customer training support for all LB Foster friction management lubricators. Extensive travel to work sites throughout North America is required on a weekly basis.
  • Liaise with external customers and internal company departments for product development and relationship-building initiatives.
  • Ability to work outdoors on railway tracks under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Responsible for managing personal travel expense account, individual or company-supplied mechanics tools, company-issued credit cards where applicable.
  • Handles basic issues and problems, refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • All other duties as assigned.
