Job summary

FLSmidth is seeking a Field Service Technician for the Knelson Product Line to support installation bases, service and upgrade mining processing equipment globally from Canada. You will troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, conduct on-site commissioning, and train client staff while maintaining strong client relationships.

Travel up to 75% is expected, with a focus on customer satisfaction, safety, and collaboration with the local and global teams.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of mechanical experience in mining/heavy industry
  • Hands-on experience with mining processing equipment
  • Understanding of FLS Knelson or competitor products is highly regarded
  • Strong troubleshooting skills under pressure
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients and internal teams
  • Demonstrated business acumen for planning and targeting growth
  • Negotiation and sales collaboration with local teams
  • Ability to work independently or remotely and communicate effectively

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on mechanical service and customer support during field visits or dispatches of Knelson products
  • Manage on-site installation, commissioning, configuring, repair, maintenance and testing tasks
  • Perform site health-checks and develop visit reports with recommendations
  • Diagnose technical issues and implement appropriate solutions
  • Advise operations/maintenance staff and management on technical matters
  • Research and recommend product upgrades to meet customer needs
  • Develop ongoing relationships to secure future business
  • Provide mechanical training onsite for client and internal staff
  • Promote safety culture across site activities and teams

Field Service Technician - Knelson Product Line

As a Field Service Technician, you will support FLS products, specifically Knelson globally. The primary responsibilities of the role are to support our existing installation base, increase market share in core markets, and grow new market opportunities. This is an individual contributor role working within our team structure reporting to the Product Manager, Gold Concentrations.

Your Responsibilities
  • Establish strategies to protect the installed base of FLS and ensure the customers are supported technically and operationally within the broader FLS products & Site Sales support networks.
  • Provides hands-on mechanical service and customer support during field visits or dispatches of Knelson products.
  • Manages all on-site installation, commissioning, configuring, repair, maintenance and test tasks, typically of a more complex nature of the Knelson product line.
  • Performs equipment mechanical health-check at site, and generate site visit reports accordingly with recommendations / actions.
  • Diagnoses errors or technical problems and determines proper solutions.
  • Provides advisory support to operations / maintenance site staff and management.
  • Researches, evaluates, and recommends new products or equipment upgrades that will meet customer needs.
  • Develops on-going relationships with customers to secure future business.
  • Perform mechanical training onsite for client and internal personal.
  • Promotes a culture of personal and team safety, including others who may be affected by the company’s operational activities.
What You Bring
  • 7+ years of mechanical experience, preferably in mining, heavy industry, or rotating equipment.
  • A college diploma or degree in a technical field is an asset but not required.
  • A level of understanding of FLS Knelson or competitor products will be highly regarded.
  • Hands-on experience working with mining processing equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a knack for solving mechanical issues under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships and credibility both internally and with external clients with strong customer service skills & technical solutions.
  • Demonstrated business acumen to develop realistic business plans with stretch targets and the clear plan to reach those targets.
  • Negotiation skills and demonstrated experience in conducting successful negotiations as a company representative.
  • Sales skills with the ability to close deals and willingness to collaborate with local sales team.
  • Ability to work in a team or individually on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely, along with communicate well with clients and teammates, and represent the company professionally on site.
  • Computer experience using standard MS Office suite of programs is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver in a fast-paced, changing environment while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Travel, globally, is required in this role. Volumes will vary based on the requirements, but 50% to 75% of time should be expected.
