Job description

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide installation, maintenance, troubleshooting/repair, and customer training support for all LB Foster friction management equipment and products.
  2. Liaise with external customers and internal departments for product development and relationship-building initiatives.
  3. Work outdoors on railway trucks under various weather conditions.
  4. Manage personal travel expenses, tools, and company-issued credit cards where applicable.
  5. Document and report all work-related activities, including miles traveled, expenses, and daily reports.
  6. Communicate effectively with railway personnel to plan and schedule daily activities.
  7. Travel regularly out of town and be flexible with work shifts.

Experience & Education:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience in hydraulics, mechanics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and schematic reading.
  3. Certification in E-Railsafe and Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) for applicable client railways, plus any additional customer-required training.
  4. CDL or Driver’s License with Transport Canada Physical Card for driving trucks of 26,000 LBS GVW or larger is preferred but not mandatory.

Skills & Abilities:

  1. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with good time management.
  2. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  3. Reliability, professionalism, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  4. Technical writing skills for work reports.
  5. Commitment to safety and adherence to all applicable safety and operating rules.
  6. Willingness to wear PPE (Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection).
  7. Ability to act as Watchman/Lookout, monitoring train approaches and communicating warnings.
  8. Physical ability to stand, sit, walk, handle objects, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
  9. Operate impact tools, power tools, and manual earth-moving equipment.
  10. Extensive travel throughout North America and possibly overseas.
  11. Flexibility for overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  12. Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and perform physical tasks on uneven surfaces.
  13. Work near moving mechanical parts and trains, with exposure to electrical hazards, heights, weather conditions, fumes, and noise.
