Job summary

WSP Canada is seeking a Geotechnical/Materials Technician to support field and laboratory testing for infrastructure projects across Alberta. You will perform testing on soils, asphalt, concrete and aggregates, prepare inspection reports, and help deliver safe, high‑quality decisions on major projects.

This role involves travel to site locations, outdoor work in varying weather, and adherence to CSA and ASTM standards while maintaining meticulous records and collaborating with multidisciplinary

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Geotechnical Engineering Technology, Materials Engineering Technology, or related.
• Experience performing field and laboratory testing of soils, asphalt, concrete, and aggregates.
• Knowledge of CSA, ASTM, and related industry testing standards.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to work outdoors and travel to project sites as required.
• Commitment to health, safety, and quality performance.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Construction monitoring on projects including excavations, subgrade inspection, shallow foundations, pile monitoring.
• Preparation of inspection reports and data entry.
• Field Concrete testing and Field Compaction testing.
• Geotechnical instrumentation reading.
• Lab work including sieve analysis, proctors, cylinder breaking, CSA calibrations, moisture contents, asphalt.
• Maintain orderliness of laboratory.
